Rachael Blackmore Counselling

Rachael Blackmore Counselling I am a therapeutic counsellor based in Corsham and Chippenham, supporting people to gain insight, build resilience, and experience life in a more positive way.

Sometimes life feels too difficult. You might be unhappy at work, be going through some difficulty in a relationship or perhaps something from your past is affecting your life today. Whatever it is, it’s good to talk, and I provide a safe place in which you can talk in confidence and where you will be listened to with compassion, understanding and without judgement. I believe in the power of relationship: building a relationship with you where trust and acceptance facilitate open communication about the things that are troubling you. I am committed to helping you explore your difficult feelings and experiences to find a way to feel better and experience life differently. I will work at your pace; I offer short term and long term counselling in a comfortable room at Westgate House, Gloucester. Individual sessions last for 50 minutes and cost £65. Couples sessions are an hour and cost £95. With a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, I work as an integrative therapist. This means I draw on the Person-Centred approach and use Psychodynamic theory to work collaboratively with you to improve your mental and emotional well-being. I work with many issues, including low self esteem and self confidence, gender dysphoria, sexuality, career support and redundancy, stress, marriage and relationship issues, affairs and betrayals, work related stress, infertility, separation and divorce and transgender issues. I have a diploma in Therapeutic Counselling from Gloucestershire College. I am a member of BACP. I have worked with various agencies, such as Listening Post, Cotswold Counselling, and Teens in Crisis.

Perspective is always our friend!

We all have annoying/upsetting things happen in the course of a day.

But there’s so much more to the story of a day—it might be a smile from a stranger, something that made you laugh, encountering less traffic than you expected, a discount on your lunch order, or an email from a friend.

Yet some people have a pattern of answering, “How was your day?” with, “Let me tell you about the incompetent customer service rep, the bad coffee, the Internet that went down for a few minutes when I needed to work.”

If you want to have a happier life, think carefully about which few minutes of the day *you* focus on ☀️

You get one life - be brave!

I have had people say when I kept going, please don't get hurt. I understand what they are saying but you cannot avoid getting hurt. Obviously being careless or irresponsible will get you hurt, but you cannot avoid hurt when you go after what you want. So if it's asking that crush out, going for the job you really want, you have to accept that you could get hurt. You cannot go after something and have the guarantee that it will not work out. Going after what you want in life and pain is a package deal, you cannot have one without the other. You might have to work extra hours, you might have to have an embarrassing moment with your crush, and make mistakes. Just know that this will all make you stronger and think of it as a practicing ground for the game.

Absolutely. Social expectations mean we often agree to things out of a sense of politeness or not wanting to look rude. It's important to teach ourselves and our children that it's okay to say no thank you and stick to it.

It's so important to hear someone when they share suicidal feelings. Often our response is to try shut them down with platitudes and reassurances because it's distressing for us to hear what they're telling us. Hearing how they are experiencing life and trying to understand can be so powerful, and supporting them in finding specialist help can make all the difference.

It's so important to dispel the myth that "asking for help" in a suicidal crisis means that someone doesn't really want to end their life. They are highly likely to be very much at risk. We must grasp the opportunity to help them while they are still seeking help.
