Before we post routes from the end of 2025 and going into 2026, here is a quick map quiz question.

Which other National Park has a reservoir that mirrors the shape of Gwryne Fawr but is a full Km larger in its surface area?

A clue maybe that the Dam on Gwyrne Fawr is in the SE but the Dam on the reservoir we want you to find, sits on the NE! Sue Wheeler - one for you and maybe one you should know! Lynda, I think you know already!

Answer will be in Comments Shortly.

Does anyone know when and where this picture was taken?

2026 is looking pretty full on already with events, courses, walks and trips away. We will be back in the Lakes Training in June but the main goal for this year will be to summit on some big peaks in the Julian Alps, preparation for which starts on the 4th January.

All our events are currently on the website www.upperlimits.co.uk and will be posted here very shortly.... watch this space! Harvey Maps Hiiker National Navigation Award Scheme LOWA Páramo Directional Clothing Lowe Alpine Mac in a Sac

14/12/2025

The final group walk for 2025 took place around Symonds Yat, and the River Wye on the edge of the FoD. It was a bit of a toughy with so much undulation but well worth it especially with home made mince pies, clotted cream and brandy waiting at the finish!

The route started from the Symonds Yat rocks car park which is free for members or £7.50 all day. there are toilets and a cafe here too.

After a quick visit to the view point, we dropped down initially NW then SW until we met the River Wye. We followed the good path SW/W to Biblins Bridge, Crossing the Wye here. With all the rain, the rapids at the Yat were washed out and the river up a good two meters from the last time I paddled it.

Once over the bridge, we continued North then bearing off NW to take in King Arthurs Cave 9cant believe i have never been here before)!

From here we dropped steeply back down to the River then handrailed Seven Sisters Rock, continuing on back to Biblins to cross the bridge again.

We climbed SW/W all the way up to "The Suck Stone" / Near Hearkening Rock, which looks like a huge Cornish Pasty. the path is patchy in places due to all the fallen leaves.

It was the time to double back on ourselves heading East on the LDFP the dropping NW to the River (choose were you cross carefully in winter months) and may be worth looking for the FB up the path to the SE.

We crossed at a good point and then zig zagged back up to hit the main path back to the Car Park.

It would be good to do this in another season (Spring / Summer) when flowers are starting to come out... may add it to next years list!

Here is the Fly Through: Wye Valley, King Arthur's Cave & Hearkening Rock! https://www.relive.com/view/vYvExnGYGGq

Our first group of 2026 takes place on the 17th Jan with the route TBC. Membership to the walking group is now open and will be limited to 9 members. www.upperlimits.co.uk

Such a great app, delivers plenty of bang for your buck and so much better than OS Maps especially as it has Harvey Maps included.

All our completed routes are shared here with updated gpx files from what was planned to what was completed so you know paths are actually on the ground.

This is now our go to app although we always carry paper maps (and a compass) for safety on the hills.

Maps can easily be printed from the Hiiker App too 👍🏻💪
