The final group walk for 2025 took place around Symonds Yat, and the River Wye on the edge of the FoD. It was a bit of a toughy with so much undulation but well worth it especially with home made mince pies, clotted cream and brandy waiting at the finish!

The route started from the Symonds Yat rocks car park which is free for members or £7.50 all day. there are toilets and a cafe here too.

After a quick visit to the view point, we dropped down initially NW then SW until we met the River Wye. We followed the good path SW/W to Biblins Bridge, Crossing the Wye here. With all the rain, the rapids at the Yat were washed out and the river up a good two meters from the last time I paddled it.

Once over the bridge, we continued North then bearing off NW to take in King Arthurs Cave 9cant believe i have never been here before)!

From here we dropped steeply back down to the River then handrailed Seven Sisters Rock, continuing on back to Biblins to cross the bridge again.

We climbed SW/W all the way up to "The Suck Stone" / Near Hearkening Rock, which looks like a huge Cornish Pasty. the path is patchy in places due to all the fallen leaves.

It was the time to double back on ourselves heading East on the LDFP the dropping NW to the River (choose were you cross carefully in winter months) and may be worth looking for the FB up the path to the SE.

We crossed at a good point and then zig zagged back up to hit the main path back to the Car Park.

It would be good to do this in another season (Spring / Summer) when flowers are starting to come out... may add it to next years list!

Our first group of 2026 takes place on the 17th Jan with the route TBC. Membership to the walking group is now open and will be limited to 9 members. www.upperlimits.co.uk

Such a great app, delivers plenty of bang for your buck and so much better than OS Maps especially as it has Harvey Maps included.

All our completed routes are shared here with updated gpx files from what was planned to what was completed so you know paths are actually on the ground.

This is now our go to app although we always carry paper maps (and a compass) for safety on the hills.

Maps can easily be printed from the Hiiker App too 👍🏻💪

Yesterday saw our Tutor Director deliver a bespoke extended NNAS Tutor Course to 9 delegates from Surrey Scouts with a view to them incorporating the Outdoor Discovery, Bronze and Silver Awards into their programme.

The day started with discussion and table top activities before heading out on the for all the practical elements of the award.

All 9 delegates were successful and now look to start running their own courses from February 2026 - Exciting times for all involved and hopefully a way of spreading the word about The National Navigation Award Scheme.

The weather has been kind to us this past week in North Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

After a travel, admin and rest day Monday (after the lakes) we went big on Tuesday with my favourite route on Snowdon, up the Watkin and down via the South Col.

We have done this previously but included it for those who hadn't along with a slight variation on the very last leg.

The next few days consisted of a good mix of routes and explorer days, heading up and around Llyn Elsi, Holyhead Mountain, Moelwyn Mawr 770m and Dorothea Quarry.

Specific route details, including route fly throughs and maps can be found on Mountain Adventures & Training

It's now back to course delivery of First Aid and NNAS Navigation courses with a couple of group walks thrown in for good measure

Planning is now well underway for 2026 with our Lakes visit planned for the 4th to the 8th of June and most courses provisionally in the diary.

Feel free to call on 01454 321153 or email training@upperlimits.co.uk for more information.

A great few training days in the lakes, basing ourselves around Borrowdale to bag a few whilst completing three great routes. All can be found on Mountain Adventures & Training in more detail.

With the feedback from this year trip being very positive for all, we have already pencilled in the 4th to the 8th of September 2026 for more CPD in this area. Training will take place on the 5th, 6th, 7th and possibly the 8th.

Here are some of the highlights from 2025. With the weather against us (unfortunately), We now head down to North Wales to continue the Adventure with the Walking Group.
