Anahat yoga's second baby is here!
This time a bit more refined and a bit less spontaneous.
Our summer retreat 2023 is all ready for you. 16th June to 18th June In Lincoln, UK
If you are ready to meet yourself, spend time with just 'you' and discover the world within then please go ahead and visit https://anahat.yoga/ to check what's in store for you. Please check out our itinerary.
Of course, there will be yoga asana practice but a lot more than that. We will introduce you to various avenues that will help you lead a more holistic life. Our intention isn't to just teach you how to stand on one leg on the mat but to help you lead a more balanced life off the mat.
Haven't we all become an outcome of misery, attachment, suffering, pain and somehow learnt to sail through it as we think that's 'LIFE'
Let's build a community where we don't just heal but feel empowered to build a spiritual shield around us to experience life instead of just letting it pass by.
We have been blessed with bookings pouring in within an hour of launching the second retreat.
Keep the love coming, cannot wait to see you all on the mat :))

Is social media really an unsafe place??
I was warned to be away from all social media platforms (hence my disappearance for almost a decade) as I was convinced that NOBODY is going to be happy watching me live my life and all I should expect is envy and negativity which in turn will affect my life!!!
At 37, I can comprehend my inner voice better than a decade ago. I wanted to try out my presence on this 'so called' vindictive platform and 10months later I am happy to say that I did! What an uplifting and supportive community I have encountered. And the best part, I can choose who I want to follow and what content resonates with my being as a whole. Is this even possible in our daily lives?
How many times can you choose to unfollow your friends you have grown apart with without offending them? Can you shut off the negative vibes you may witness at work? Can you disconnect with an extended family member you have no interest in talking to? Can you scroll through the contents of your life - work, family, friends- and stay on one chapter longer than the rest? If most of it is a no, then isn't your life 'off social media' as unsafe?
For me, all I had to do was reset my intention (sankalpa). I was sure that I was coming onto this platform to seek support and connect. There was no place for envy and discontent within and that's exactly what I received in return. And I can assure you this (through my own practice) if you come from a place of fear, anger, guilt, shame, insecurity - that's what you will find here or anywhere else. The biggest battles are fought within.
Your vibe does attract your tribe! So up your vibrations and intentions- and you will be able to sail through life a lot better. So don't forget to reset your intentions right away :))
And the next time you see someone posting their best holiday pics or work achievements- give them a thumbs up if you chose to follow them. Trust their intentions. It's all part of the happy place we created for each other!
Thank you to all those who reached out to me in the last few days (day 4 of self isolation) and self reflective mode on. What a great supportive team I have here. Happy Friday :))

Join me on the 9th of September for a live chat with Mr. Kulbhushan Kain at 1pm UK time.
He is 67 yrs old - a very successful educationist of India and a role model for a zillion kids as he was the principal and Director of DPS, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Credence High school Dubai, Former founder principal of Balbharti school Bhopal and an educational advisor to Baba Ramdev's Acharya Kulam.
With so many accolades in his pocket he has never let go of fitness and continues to do so even today- just the intensity of his exercises have changed.
I have been following a lot of fitness influencers on social media and whilst their regime looks great and motivational- it does not look relatable. It looks more aspirational- one that we would like to do but never actually follow. And that is solely because we are looking at a super shapely body with muscles oozing out from every party of their structure. And if you are someone looking to get started with basic exercises and are struggling to even keep up with those then you need more 'relatable stories'. One where you wake up in the morning and rush into a chaotic life and struggle to find time to even do 10min of any exercise.
This live chat will focus on tips to inculcate fitness into your busy lives, how to stay motivated whilst enjoying good food (Mr. Kain is a big foodie), basic routine to stay on track.
If you really care for your well being then hope you can join us on the 9th. Please feel free to pass this onto anyone and everyone you think would benefit from this :))
It's never too late to get started.

The only way to reach the higher self is - to stay grounded, connected with mother earth and gratitude in our hearts to be able to experience this universe with no filters in our thoughts, actions and of course, no filters on the gram :))
Adios to the vast ocean.I am sure we will meet again soon!

Best part of any holiday ending - we reunite with dal (lentils) and chawal (rice).yay!! Ghar ka khana (home cooked food)

Back pain is what brings 50% of my students to the mat. It's what gets them started with yoga. Chronic back pain needs medical attention but if its stiffness due to lifestyle then yes, yoga can help.
Here are a few poses, if practiced with consistency, can reduce stiffness in the lower back.
But to strengthen the lumbar spine, you need to think about the bigger picture. Open hips, hamstrings, knees, mid back, shoulders all help in keeping your lower back supple. Which means you need to stretch more than just your back.

After going on and on about my yoga retreat - It's finally happening.
Me and my passionate yoga teacher friend have joined hands to organise our dream retreat.
From the 10th to the 13th of October, we will be bringing the traditional Indian yogic vibe to Fair Oak Farms, set amidst the stunning English countryside.
It's open to everyone who is curious about yoga, wants to start yoga or has done yoga for several years.
Our intention isn't to restrict your yoga experience to just asanas (poses) but to provide you an environment to understand yoga as a philosophy, as a way of living, as a tool to dive deeper within through breathing techniques, mantra/chants, meditation, yogi texts
Sometimes, we need to step out and away from where we are mentally and physically to be grateful, to realign, to pause. And retreats give you an opportunity to do just that. At the end of the 3 day retreat you are assured to feel rejuvenated and ready to jump back to your lives with the right coping mechanisms to deal with the chaos and clutter of life.
Our vision isn't that of a profitable business but to help spread the magic of yoga through our own learnings on the mat.

It's not restricted to people in the UK only. So friends and family all over are welcome to join. 'atithi devo bhava' (Guest is God) and we look forward to welcoming you on the mat

Meet my men!

Not what you are thinking. These are only a couple of them who have been joining me on the mat for over 5/6 years. There are many other social media shy ones who preferred to not feature on insta.
Point is, my classes have always noticed a gender bias. It's always been more women and less men. But the men who turned up converted to yogis for life.
I am not of the opinion that men need it more or women. As yoga is for everybody and all body types .
I just wanted to thank my men on the mat for being consistent and brave enough to walk into a room with mostly women and stay focused on their practice. And I can proudly say that they are not stiff (as we generally categorise men as stiff and women as flexible) and within a few years have converted to yoga addicts
So if you are a woman reading this post and have been thinking about getting the men in your life started with yoga - do it right away
And if you are a man who has been contemplating with starting with the practice - then please 'break the bias' and get going.
Most of the yoga gurus that I have studied are men- Patanjali, Patabhi Jois, Desikacchar, Iyengar - so here's hoping to see equality on the mat :)))

Yes, yoga teachers get a promotion too. I am sharing this not to boast about how good I am as a yoga teacher but to thank the yoga alliance UK for giving structure to an industry which has struggled for years to qualify as a 'proper JOB'. Yoga alliance has done a brilliant job of providing a platform for all yoga teachers to feel supported throughout their career

Most yoga teachers would relate to this- we don't get employee benefits, we don't get paid holidays, we don't get assigned pension but yet we choose to do what we do - because we find joy and inner peace in helping the world become a better place by trying to free our souls from all that brings unhappiness within

More power to my teaching community and thank you for making me a part of your world.

Please spread the word to anyone you think would benefit - family, friends, neighbours, colleagues, househelp.

All you need is mat or a small rug, yoga straps or tie or scarf and a small towel. Good music is optional but always helps.

Are you apprehensive to join a yoga class because you think your balance isn't good? Most yoga classes will always have tree pose to build your balance.

Here's my simplified version of tree pose. Try it! It will build your confidence to try out balancing poses on the mat. And this variation will help you engage with your core by spreading your body's weight evenly even though you are standing on one leg. You have try it out to know what I mean

Let me know what you think of it :))

20/04/2022

Are there days when you find yourself wrapped in chaos, clutter, noise - entangled in the world that resides within you? What do you do in those dark moments?
We live in a world that teaches us to fight back, to rebel against those moments as we are often told that 'its all in the mind'
We are trained to believe that those grey pauses in our life are only in our thoughts and we should and have to rise above it all.
Why shouldn't we acknowledge our feelings, thoughts, emotions and let the world around us experience our raw emotions?
Have we ever surrendered or given into those dark moments. When was the last time we let ourselves be vulnerable?
Yoga practice emphasizes on self acceptance over self improvement.
Surrendering, letting go or giving in to what and how you feel is not a sign of weakness but an enhanced understanding of your true being. And that is the hardest asana ever!

Give it a go :))

Happy hump day!

FIT not fat/flat series - part 5

And finally it's time for the legs. Your legs carry the burden of your upper body. But as we have worked on the upper body and hips in my previous posts, consider half the job done as your legs will feel less pressure when you are fit and mobile in the rest of the body.

I have focused more on the quadriceps (front of the thighs) for 2 main reasons

Strong quads protect your knees from weakening and also support the hamstrings (back of the thighs) from overworking which in turn supports the lower back and come to think of it, helps in maintaining spinal health

Secondly, I am still very sore from my 108 sun salutations challenge so the hamstrings aren't working to their full extent so I am going to leave them alone
But the poses mentioned in my previous posts help strengthen the hamstrings too

Oh yes, of course at a very superficial level, these exercises will give you super toned legs just in time for that summer holiday! But consistency is key - I will cover this in depth in my next post

Please note that these poses don't take into account any knee injuries or any other health conditions so it's always advisable to refer to your health practitioner before trying.

So here's the full routine to start your fitness journey
15min warm up
1 or 2 upper body exercises
1 exercise for the sides
1 or 2 exercises for the core
1or 2 exercises for the hips
1 or 2 for the legs

Boom! It's no rocket science - just a bit of motivation and loads of consistency = a fitter version of you :))

So on your marks, get set and gooooooo!!!!
