I always talk about the importance of self care and taking time to look after yourself. We all need to press pause sometimes.

Tonight I took a leaf out my own book and have just been to a sound healing session with the lovely Meg at Health at Heart upstairs in the building I work. It was the ultimate relaxation - and just what was needed! My daughter who fell asleep in the session would agree!

Remember taking time out is never selfish, it’s important 💜

They say even small changes in your routine can help boost mental well being! 💜

One way to do that could be to drive a different route to your usual place of work. This can make you more alert and more present as you have to focus more, it can give you new things to notice and appreciate. Or it can simply break the monotony of your week.

This morning I had an extra 5min so I took a different route. It made me focus as it involved some interesting country roads, but for me today it gave me gratitude as I stopped for a minute at the side of the road, I know just how lucky I am to have Rivington on my doorstep.

My day has started well, I hope yours is too!

I get regular notifications that new people are viewing this page and I’m aware I don’t regularly post or haven’t introduced myself for a while. So for the new visitors here is a bit about me:

My name is Jaclyn, and I am a Psychotherapist (Counsellor), registered member of the BACP, with an office in the centre of Chorley.

I work with both individuals and couples. My work often takes us to explore experiences and relationships (past and recent) to understand the impact they have had in who we are today. I often work with depression, anxiety, bereavement, relationship difficulties, stress, low self-esteem, and generally feeling low/overwhelmed.

My journey into this career path started in 2004 with my degree in Psychology with Counselling Studies, but I went on to teach Psychology for a number of years first. In 2019 I went back to University and got my Post-Graduate Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy.

Life certainly isn’t as straight forward as a text book, but there is always a model that can help us to understand who we are and why we behave as we do, and through therapy the ultimate goal is to develop the awareness of self to then put the steps in place for change.

It was a day out of the office for me yesterday, in fact out of the north and down to London!

Thankyou to Enterprise Vision Awards for inviting me to join you in a special visit to the House of Commons and Afternoon Tea with the Speaker.

I met some amazing women, some local some not. A great day had, and memories made.

For anyone living the daily battle of parenting a teen, this article gives a great and simplistic overview of teenage brain development. We always say “oh it’s the hormones!” ………but actually its not just that! 🧠

Are you struggling with your teen's moods and behavior? Understanding the teenage brain can help you become a more compassionate parent.

My therapy room is in this wonderful centre. There are some fabulous people in here offering fabulous treatments and services.

I am a massive advocate for self care and taking time out for yourself. If you are interested in any of the treatments Meg mentioned on the post just get in touch with the Center (or ask me and I’ll point you in the right direction!) 💜

Let’s be honest there are self serving reasons for a business to provide sponsorship! But why choose to sponsor the ones we do? 🤔

For me, I’m passionate about the connection between exercise/sport and mental well-being. The evidence is clear that there is a positive relationship between the two. But how are they related? Exercise helps mental well-being by……

* Biochemistry- I’m sure we all know that exercise boosts Serotonin, but it also boosts Dopamine. Both of which are neurotransmitters that help us feel better within ourselves.

* Exercise can trigger the same physiological response as anxiety, giving us opportunity to learn how to manage it in a safer context.

* Cognitive challenge and accomplishment - often exercise requires us to think about challenges and obstacles in a way to overcome them. Be that a personal challenge or position in a team. Overcoming those challenges can really boost our self esteem.

* Getting out - outdoor exercise also helps as evidence shows the fresh air and greenery are both factors that can help our moods.

* Being social - obviously this depends on what you choose to do but playing a team sport or going to a class/group can help us to interact and give us new friendships, feel part of something.

If you aren’t in your best place right now that might all seem a bit daunting, but the benefits are definitely worth it! As the saying goes “you will never regret a workout”

For me, in relationship to this specific sponsorship, Rugby meets all the above - but I appreciate not everyone would find being tackled to the ground an idea of fun!!

I’d like to introduce you to this lovely group of people. My office is based at Health at Heart, a wellness Centre in Chorley town Centre.

Between us we cover a range of talking therapies and holistic therapies, with different skills and expertise. So what ever you looking for whether it’s a lovely massage, reiki, help with mental health or some support with physical well-being, one of us will be able to get you the support you are looking for 💜

My heart is absolutely full this evening! We had a great team get together this afternoon, time to really understand everyone’s individual modalities and a real opportunity to strengthen and develop the work that we do at HQ..

Exciting new collaborations and healing work to come as we move into our 3rd year here in the heart of Chorley 💚

It’s World Mental Health Day today. Mental health should always be something to be aware of, to make time for.

But today is a really good reminder that our mental health is important for all of us who can let life take over at the expense of checking in with ourselves.

No matter how busy you are today, make time for a 10min check in with yourself and maybe review the self care you use to look after your mental health. Maybe now is an ideal time to reach out to someone if you need a bit of support. 💜

I saw this and it really resonated so I wanted to share it.

A huge hurdle in coming to therapy, or in fact reaching out to a friend, is the fear of saying out loud the stuff we carry. But actually no one has ever told me that they regretted bringing something out into the open once they’ve done it. In fact it’s relief that it’s no longer a burden/secret that you carry. It’s freeing (not denying it might be scary to say out loud) and in the safe space of Therapy you can process it as it really is to you, and not in a way that’s censored in fear of others reactions.

A common thing I hear, especially in the first few sessions, is something along the lines of “I haven’t been to Therapy about this before because my problems seem nothing in comparison to what others go through, I just sucked it up and carried on for x number of months”.

Our experience is subjective and yes you can argue that some things will have more of an impact than others, but different things do effect different people in different ways - there’s no set pattern for how to respond to things. And in the therapy room it’s about you and your experiences, your emotions, your sense of self. And that’s ok to have that time that’s just about you to let go of what ever it is you need to let go of.

If you feel you’re holding onto something, come and give therapy a go. Or even, just reach out to a friend 💜

Self care is so important and is never selfish! We usually find it very easy to support other people’s needs, but giving yourself that time is equally (if not more so at times) important.

Don’t feel guilty for giving yourself a breathing space to support yourself.
