Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week, 4th–10th May

Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week is dedicated to talking about mental health problems before, during and after pregnancy. A survey by the organisers discovered that, overwhelmingly, women do not feel listened to about their mental health, so this week is designed to highlight the issues, increase access to information and support, and change attitudes.

Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week is a week-long campaign dedicated to talking about mental health problems before, during and after pregnancy.

Hospice UK work with organisations, decision makers and the public to make things better for people who are dying or grieving. In the UK, we don’t have the right language to talk about death, so not everyone gets the right support for them as they approach the end of life. This year's theme is 'Let’s talk about Death and Dying', and communities are encouraged to get talking in whatever way, shape or form works for them.

You can join the ‘Dying Matters’ community, share your story, find resources and learn about your compassionate superpowers on Hospice UK’s website: https://www.hospiceuk.org/our-campaigns/dying-matters

Coeliac Awareness Month, observed throughout the month of May, is dedicated to raising awareness about coeliac disease and promoting understanding of gluten intolerance and the importance of a gluten-free diet.

Coeliac disease is an autoimmune condition where the ingestion of gluten—a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye—causes damage to the small intestine, leading to a range of digestive and non-digestive symptoms.

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, a vital time to raise awareness about the most common form of cancer in the UK. While skin cancer is often treatable when caught early, prevention and early detection are key.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with over 156,000 non-melanoma cases diagnosed annually. Melanoma, the deadliest form, accounts for around 17,500 new cases each year and is projected to rise to 26,500 by 2040.

Skin cancers can vary in how they look. Always make an appointment with your GP if you have:
a new or changing mole
any other unusual or unexplained skin changes
an itch or sore that will not go away.
