Someone asked me this week why my business was called PRIMAL Pilates. Here’s why…
Primal movement patterns are the basic ways our bodies are naturally designed to move. These foundational movements show up in everyday life and form the basis of many exercise methods.
In Pilates, we work with the body’s natural movement patterns to build strength, control, and balance. These primal movements are the foundation of how we move every day.
Through controlled, mindful exercises, Pilates helps refine these patterns so that the body moves more efficiently and with better support from the core.
The key patterns include:
• Squat – lowering and lifting the body.
• Hinge – folding from the hips with a stable
spine.
• Lunge – stepping movements that challenge
and build single-leg strength and
stability.
• Push – moving or pushing away from the body,
often incorporating small equipment to
provide resistance.
• Pull – moving or drawing toward the body,
often through the use of small
equipment to provide resistance.
• Rotate – improving spinal mobility and control.
• Gait – coordinating the body during walking
and movement.
By training these patterns with breath, alignment, and control, Pilates helps to create a stronger, more balanced body that moves better both in the studio and in everyday life.
That’s why I choose Pilates 🧘🏽♀️ 💜
