"If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change"
One of the things we help our clients to do here at Inspired to Change is to help their brains find different ways of looking at things.
When we change how we look at things it changes our brains response, including the chemicals it releases in to our brains.
If we are looking at a task as something that is too big, or too difficult, our brain has two options.
Option 1: It's shuts down on the task. After all why waste valuable brain energy and motivational chemicals on doing a task we don't believe is possible.
Option 2: it sees the task as a potential threat and releases our stress hormone, cortisol, leaving us feeling stressed, anxious and overwhelmed about the task.
So what happens when we change how we look at the task?
If we look at this task as a challenge to overcome, to have a curious mindset about how we might achieve it a different part of our brain kicks in. The one that loves solving problems! The one that helps us find novel solutions. The one that triggers the release of chemicals in to our brain that actively help us find solutions and motivate us to take actions towards them.
A simple shift in how we look at things literally changes which part of your brain kicks in!
