Studies show that eating two kiwis an hour before bed can improve sleep quality, help you fall asleep faster, and increase total sleep time—thanks to their high serotonin, antioxidants, and folate content. Way tastier than a supplement!
Plus, kiwis are packed with vitamin C, which helps lower stress hormones, and fibre to keep your gut happy—because a healthy gut means better sleep!

So many people can struggle to get a good night sleep - if you are one of them, why not give this a go and let me know how you get on!

A new block of personalised nutrition programmes at ION are starting 6th January with our Registered Nutritionist Jen McDiarmid.

As a registered nutritionist, Jen believes that true health goes beyond just following a diet. It’s about understanding your unique needs and finding a path that works for you.

The programmes we offer are designed to help you break free from the cycle of restrictive diets. Together, we’ll explore your relationship with food, identify your nutritional needs, and cultivate sustainable habits that empower you to thrive.

What to expect:

• Personalised Sessions: Each session is tailored to your goals and lifestyle, ensuring that we focus on what matters most to you.

• Holistic Approach: We’ll look at nutrition in the context of your overall well-being, including emotional, mental, and physical health.

• Empowerment Through Knowledge: You’ll gain valuable insights into nutrition and learn how to make choices that support your health journey.

If you’re ready to unlock your true health potential and create a balanced and sustainable healthy eating pattern then drop Jen a message or go to the ION website for more details.

Merry Christmas everyone!
I will no doubt still share some family stories over the coming days but I will be stepping away from work to spend time with my little people.

I have been busy working on a new project I can’t wait to tell you about in 2025 as well as launching lots of exciting new courses, workshops and one to one offerings.

I hope you all enjoy the coming days. Whatever they may look like for you. If you find this time of year difficult, please reach out to someone including me. I know it can be tricky for some, but please remember you are never alone.

Wishing you and your loved ones a merry Christmas and a really happy new year.

Love, Jen x

As much as I hate the ‘New Year New You’ slogans that go around at this time of year, if it helps you to think of prioritising your wellbeing (not going on a diet!) then it can be a positive thing.
I now am down to my last 3 spaces for new client month personalised plans starting in January. Next spaces won’t be released until March. If you are interested in finding out more or booking one of the last slots please drop me a message and we can arrange a chat on the phone. Jen x

Optimal protein intake is essential to promote muscle recovery and growth, as well as all the other health benefits that protein provides the body.

As well as looking at the amount of protein we should consume each day, it is important to consider how often to consume protein rich foods in order to maximise its bioavailability (known as protein pacing).

Research has shown that by consuming a drink or snack that contains 40mg of casein (the protein found in dairy products) 30 minutes before bed it can increase muscle protein synthesis (MPS) rate and improve strength and muscle hypertrophy. It may be a challenge to consume this amount of protein through dairy products alone, so supplementing this with a good quality casein protein supplement could be a good option to try.

Another benefit of increasing protein before bed is that certain amino acids support our production and absorption of serotonin, the precursor to melatonin, our sleep hormone. This means that as well as supporting muscle growth it will also encourage a good nights sleep.

and I will be running an Instagram live on Friday 18th October at 10am to discuss how to keep well during all stages of the menopause.

We will use this session to discuss how the changes in our hormones can impact both our physical and mental wellbeing and how both nutrition and movement can improve our overall wellbeing and reduce the symptoms that can be experienced.

Join us for the live session, or if you aren’t able to make it live but have questions you would like us to cover, please let us know and we can ensure we answer these during our chat.

I feel really proud to be part of the team at ION strength and Conditioning.

As part of the health and wellbeing services they offer, if you are looking for personalised nutrition advice, you can book a 3 month nutrition and wellbeing package with me.

This involves taking a detailed health history, review of current diet and lifestyle as well as understanding the current functioning of your body. We use this to create a plan to support and achieve your wellbeing goals through sustainable changes and without going on a diet.

The programmes help you to understand more about your body, the role of nutrition to achieve your short term goals, but also how these changes can also improve your long term health.

For more details on this service, you can drop me a message or book through my or ION’s website.
