I'm doing some research on 'Tiredness', a common thing I'm seeing with clients (and sometimes myself).

This period we're living in has been called the era of “The Great Exhaustion“. The pandemic sent stress levels skyrocketing and drained people in unique ways, some through emotional exhaustion and burnout, others via loneliness, grief or anxiety. Five years on, things are no better. According to a 2023 meta-analysis, one in five adults worldwide is living with fatigue unrelated to a medical condition!!

I liked this comment I came across:
'Don’t use all your energy on the stuff you have to do. If all your time is spent working, cleaning or looking after your own or others’ health, you will miss out on the benefits of recreation. And when work takes over your free time, research has shown that it leads to reduced vigour and lower overall well-being.'

Our bodies are just like a standard battery. However, if we see our mobile phone battery getting low, what do we do? Yes, we plug it in and recharge it! Whereas with ourselves, we can sometimes keep going and wonder why we end up with a flat battery.

Below is a link to my download. It acts as a sort of battery charger. Most of my clients already have it, but feel free to download it and have a listen. Be warned, it says at the end to gently fall asleep, so don't listen to it whilst driving or operating a bit of machinery such as an iron!! It's 25'ish minutes long and if listened to on a reasonably regular basis, can help reduce negatives and improve mood and energy.

What is the evidence behind solution focused hypnotherapy?

Emma Treby, from Inspired to Change, talks to us about some extremely insightful research carried out with Northumbria Police Force.
Results of the study were exceptionally positive in terms of outcomes of SFH. Emma explains how a score of overall wellbeing was used to measure each individuals outcome over an average of 8 sessions, the results might just surprise you!

Make sure you listen to the full episode to learn more about how this research was conducted and get a better understanding of the science based method that solution focused hypnotherapists use.

Great river beach just up the way from us. Water thundering through, much to Maya's excitement!

I'm getting very excited about some research that's going to be published on the success rates of solution focused hypnotherapy.

CPHT (who I originally trained with and now delivery courses for) has been working on a pilot research study using an online platform called MYCaW to confirm the effectiveness of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy.

It is based on an individualised questionnaire completed by the client during the course of a hypnotherapy consultation.

They have collected data on over 100 clients to date, and the results are indicating that Solution Focused Hypnotherapy has a success rate of 80% - 90% when dealing with clients.

They will be publishing a full Research Report in 2025.

Happy days!!

This is extracted from a good book called `Rewire Your OCD Brain` and is exactly as some of my OCD clients describe what it's like to live with OCD:

"We tend to think very highly of our brains and focus on all that we have achieved with them, from building pyramids to landing on the moon. But our brains can also trap us by creating perceptions, thoughts and beliefs that torment us. Brains can produce doubts that worry us continuously, dominating your focus with thoughts you can’t stop thinking about.

It can lead you to feel you must do something, over and over, in order to feel relief. It can prevent you from making the simplest decision by endlessly producing different scenarios, making it seem impossible to know what’s right.

If your brain has become your torture chamber, how can you escape it? If you have OCD, you are especially in need of an answer to this question. You need answers about how the brain functions… Once we understand how the brain works, we can use the rules and processes that govern the brain’s functioning in ways that allow us more control.

For example, knowing that the brain can only focus attention on one thing at a time is an important weapon of self-defence for a person with obsessive thinking."

I thought it was about time to produce a blog post. Given it´s a couple of years since I did the last one, it was in fact high time! Amazing how time does fly and you think it was only 6 months ago you did the last one!

Anyway, I had a couple of clients recently suffering from Imposter Syndrome, or Imposter Phenomenon as it's now known as. So have a read if you have an interest and please share if you know anyone who may benefit.

Placebo effect, works even if you know it's placebo! Yes, it's very interesting how we can get the brain to work for us or against us, depending on what information we feed it!

A study found that nondeceptive placebos, or placebos given with people fully knowing they are placebos, effectively manage stress -- even when the placebos are administered remotely.
