🔷Group B Streptococcus (GBS) in Pregnancy: What You Need to Know🔷

Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is a common bacterium carried by around 1 in 4 women. While harmless in most adults, it can occasionally cause serious infections in newborns during or shortly after birth.

🔶What Are the Risks of GBS in Pregnancy?

GBS can sometimes lead to:

✔Sepsis
✔Pneumonia
✔Meningitis in the newborn

Most babies exposed to GBS are born healthy, but in rare cases, early-onset GBS infection can be life-threatening. Testing and preventive treatment can reduce this risk significantly.

🔶Should You Be Tested?

✔ GBS is not routinely tested on the NHS, but you can request private testing
✔ Testing is usually done between 35–37 weeks
✔ If GBS is detected, antibiotics during labour can protect your baby

🔶Private Testing and Expert Support

At Grosvenor Gardens Healthcare, we offer private GBS screening and provide appropriate treatment plans if you test positive - giving you peace of mind.

Understanding Vaccinations for Children👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Vaccinations work by training your child’s immune system to recognise and fight off specific pathogens, significantly reducing the risk of serious diseases. They are a crucial part of preventative healthcare and have dramatically decreased the incidence of many life-threatening illnesses.

🔷 Key Points About Childhood Vaccinations

✔Comprehensive Protection
Vaccines protect against serious diseases like measles, mumps, rubella, whooping cough, and polio. Following the UK schedule ensures strong immunity.

✔Proven Safety
Vaccines are thoroughly tested and monitored. Most side effects are mild and temporary; serious reactions are extremely rare.

✔Community Protection
Vaccinating your child helps protect others by reducing the spread of disease.

✔Catch-Up Options
Missed a dose? We offer catch-up schedules to keep your child protected.

Understanding Nuchal Translucency Scan 🤰

The NT scan is a specialised ultrasound done between 11 and 14 weeks of pregnancy. It measures the nuchal translucency (a fluid-filled space at the back of the baby’s neck). Combined with maternal blood tests (free β-hCG and PAPP-A) and maternal age, it helps estimate the risk of chromosomal conditions such as Down’s, Edwards’, and Patau’s syndromes.

Key Aspects of the Nuchal Translucency Scan:

☑ Early Detection: An increased NT measurement can signal a higher risk of certain chromosomal conditions.

☑ Combined Screening: The NT scan forms part of a broader screening package, helping to guide further diagnostic decisions.

☑ Screening, Not Diagnostic: It offers a risk assessment; if your results indicate increased risk, further testing (such as NIPT, CVS, or amniocentesis) may be advised.

Why Choose Grosvenor Gardens Healthcare for Your Nuchal Translucency Scan?

✔️Expert Obstetric Team
Our consultants are highly experienced in NT scans, providing accurate, evidence-based care tailored to you.

✔️Rapid, Private Appointments
We prioritise prompt access to our services, minimising waiting times and alleviating anxiety with fast, reliable results.

✔️Compassionate, Patient-Centred Approach
We understand that early pregnancy can be an emotional time. Our team is dedicated to explaining every step of the process, so you feel fully informed and reassured.

✔️Convenient Locations
Enjoy our expert care at either our Dulwich or Belgravia clinics, where we offer a welcoming, private environment for your scan.

Ovulatory dysfunction👩‍⚕️

This is the most common reason for abnormal bleeding and occurs commonly after puberty and before the menopause.

As a result of non- ovulation, or improper function of the developing follicle or Corpus Luteum, one or both hormones which control the menstrual cycle i.e. oestrogen and progesterone, may not be secreted. This leads to a lack of support to the endometrium and irregular shedding and bleeding.

It can also occur in reproductive years but is usually only temporary. Occasionally this occurs due to a functional ovarian cyst.
Ultrasounds can help to identify which hormone is missing in order to rule out the possibility of a cyst and, so a course of treatment can be prescribed to correct the abnormality that cycle.

At Grosvenor Gardens Healthcare, we are deeply committed to delivering comprehensive support and specialised care for individuals affected by this condition. We understand the importance of personalised, compassionate treatment and strive to prioritize your health and well-being at every step. ✨

Our team of dedicated professionals is here to address your needs, answer your questions, and guide you through your healthcare journey with expertise and empathy. 👩‍⚕️💜

We welcome both insured and self- funding patients with the opportunity to choose how, when and where you get your treatment.

Your health is our top priority, and we are here to ensure you receive the highest standard of medical attention tailored to your specific requirements.💙
