⛅️ The rain stayed away and so the Care Farm came alive! Seeing the farm bustling with people, all working on skills that they can then go out and use in general community settings in the future is just magical.
🐑 🐖 We’ve had lots of new baby animals arrive over the last few days too!
🚶🏻New walks have opened so today everyone was exploring those, including the new picnic 🧺 area.
🦙 A young adult has a new role of walking the alpacas, which for her first time, she absolutely aced! We want to ensure they are easy to handle and so regular practise walking is important for them.
🆕 One of the children practised a new transition and did amazingly well, the time to transition shorter and they were much calmer too. There was also so much communication and independence!
👧🏻 One child had a day of community activities, parks and walks, including a large walk around our new walk, to see if their newly learned safety skills now mean they can be 1:1 in the community instead of 2:1 and they were amazing! Only a few months ago, it wasn’t possible and now through lots of work on safety skills, it is absolutely possible! More community activities, with less restrictive practises here we come!

We get the privilege of working with some adsolute superstars 🤩!

Strengthening Our Service Through Practice Leadership
At Skybound Therapies, we believe in leading from the ground up. To ensure our domiciliary and care farm services maintain the highest standards, we have appointed 9 staff members as Practice Leaders.

Practice Leadership is a core component of high-quality Positive Behaviour Support. Our Practice Leaders work directly on the front line to model best practices, provide staff coaching, and ensure our values are consistently implemented. By focusing on the BILD pillars of Practice Leadership, they ensure that:

Quality of Life is Prioritised: Every session is meaningful and person-centred.
Resources are Optimised: Our Resource Practice Leader, for example, ensures that all therapeutic tools are maintained and ready for immediate use.
Consistency is Maintained: Staff receive real-time feedback and guidance to deliver evidence-based care.

This model empowers our team to take pride in their work while ensuring the individuals we support receive the highest level of care. We look forward to sharing more updates on the impact our 9 Practice Leaders are achieving.

Strategic Steps Toward Independence
At Skybound Therapies, our goal is to support clients toward greater independence through a structured and evidence-based approach. We are currently celebrating the progress of a client as we take systematic steps toward reducing 2-1 support.

This process is not an overnight change, but rather a transition rooted in a clinical plan for building skills and slowly fading support. To ensure the success of this transition, our team is focusing on:

Data-Led Monitoring We are utilizing consistent data collection to closely track progress. This allows us to look for any signs that a reduction in support may be causing challenges, ensuring we can adapt the plan in real-time to maintain safety and stability.

Systematic Skill Building The focus remains on developing the client's internal skills and self-regulation. By following a systematic fading plan, we ensure that as support levels adjust, the client’s personal capacity is strengthened.

Maintaining Community Access A primary objective is ensuring that quality of life is maximized. We are closely monitoring community engagement to ensure that any changes in staffing levels do not limit the client’s ability to access their environment and participate in meaningful activities.

This milestone is the result of dedicated rapport-building and a commitment to reducing restrictive practices through a safe, measured, and highly monitored framework. We look forward to continuing this work to ensure the best possible outcomes for our clients.

Behaviour is Communication: Looking Beneath the Surface 🗣️
At Skybound Therapies, we believe every action tells a story. When a child or young person is in distress, they aren't "acting out"—they are communicating an unmet need. Understanding the Functions of Behaviour is the key to unlocking what they are trying to tell us.

The 4 Main Functions of Behaviour 🔍
There are four primary reasons why a behaviour usually occurs. By identifying which one is at play, we can respond with support rather than just "management":

Social Attention: Seeking an interaction or connection with others.

Escape or Avoidance: Trying to get away from a task, person, or a sensory environment that feels overwhelming.

Tangible (Access): A way to request a specific object, food, or a favourite activity.

Sensory/Automatic: The behaviour provides a physical feeling that either feels good or helps relieve internal discomfort.

Our Approach 🤝
When we identify these functions, we can:

Listen with Empathy: Recognising that "challenging" moments are often a request for help.
Provide Alternatives: Teaching new, safer ways to communicate these same needs.
Promote Independence: Creating environments that foster growth rather than control.

When we change how we view behaviour, we change how we respond to it.

📚 Want to learn more about our approach? Our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Pack includes a detailed breakdown of these functions and how we apply them across our Care Farm and residential services. You can find it, along with our Transitions Guide, under the Resources Tab on our website.

Thank you Caffi'r Sgwar in Maenclochog! Twice this week you’ve been welcoming to our young people and our Behaviour Support Workers. Not long ago, this young man wouldn’t leave his house, today it’s been a full day of brunch in the cafe, watering plants, hoovering, moving alpacas and more! We are so lucky to have such lovely businesses that support the work we do, we appreciate you 😊.

⭐️ Are you our next Life Changer? ⭐️

We are on a mission to help keep local children with learning disabilities and behaviours that challenge in Pembrokeshire. Often children with such complex needs can end up out of county, even over the border in England.
💫 Our new Plas Seren short term residential service aims to help reduce behaviours that challenge and keep families closely involved by providing therapeutic care underpinned by intensive Postive Behaviour Support and Speech and Language Therapy. We want to empower children to communicate their needs, to learn coping skills, to increase their community access and therefore reduce behaviours that challenge.

🫵 But to do this WE NEED YOU!
Do you share our mission? Are you a caring, dedicated person? Are you ready for a challenge that is so incredibly rewarding? Are you committed to changing lives?

Are you ready for a role that provides multiple benefits including:

🏥 Private Health Insurance
🧍 Life Insurance
💷 Income Protection Programme
🏝️ Length of service holiday bonus of up to 5 days
🏖️ Extra holiday purchase scheme
👨‍🎓 Funding towards external qualifications
🤗 in house proactive wellbeing programme

And more!

If you are, complete our application form now! Link in the comments.

Today we welcomed our CIW registration inspector to Plas Seren, our new short term children’s residential service. This service is Level 6 in our collection of services for children with learning disabilities and behaviours that challenge. It feels quite amazing to be so close to being ready to open! Feedback was positive, just a few minor tweaks to make! Thank you everyone who has been involved in getting this service ready.

A local family recently came to us for their first appointment. They had been in for an initial chat to see if we could help, before booking an appointment and during that chat we’d given them some advice on teaching their child to cooperate and to use their voice to request.
What a delight it was to see them for their first appointment and to ask how things are, only to be told that the advice had changed their child’s life and he was a different boy! He was engaging, talking, talking in phrases even! Absolutely blown away by what this family has achieved already!! 😍
