There are currently around 200 people in our Urgent Care and Emergency Departments. Our teams are working incredibly hard but we know that some people are facing long waits and we are sorry about that. Please know we are doing everything we can.

Please help us by considering where the best place is for your health needs. If your condition is not life or limb threatening, there may be an alternative service that can help, including a local pharmacy, your GP, the Urgent Treatment Centre at Burnley General Teaching Hospital or Minor Injuries Unit at Accrington Acorn Centre.

If in doubt please use NHS 111 online which has health professionals that will direct you to the most appropriate place.
Full details of waiting times and additional services can be found on our website – link in the comments👇

The NHS's ovarian cancer van is visiting Blackburn this week as part of the 'Know your ovaries' campaign to raise awareness of the symptoms of ovarian cancer.

In the UK, more than 7,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer every year.

Of those, only around one third are diagnosed at stage one or two, with over 50 per cent of ovarian cancers sadly diagnosed at advanced stages.

Trained volunteers on board the van can provide information, interactive symptom checkers, and signposting to support groups and healthcare providers.

To learn more about ovarian cancer signs and symptoms, and where to go for help, you can pop along to the van when it's in Blackburn this week:

The pathology lab at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is currently facing severe disruptions, this is resulting in some samples being delayed, or not processed at all. It may mean that we have to repeat your test.
The trust has taken steps to address this issue and have apologised for the inconvenience caused.

● The UK government will be carrying out a national test of the Emergency Alerts system on Sunday 7 September at 3pm.

● Compatible mobile phones and tablets will receive an alert, make a loud siren-like sound and vibrate. Find out more at gov.uk/alerts.

● The Emergency Alerts system is used to warn if there’s a danger to life nearby, including extreme weather.

● Regular testing ensures the system is functioning correctly, should it need to be used in a life-threatening emergency.

● The Emergency Alerts system is an important tool for reaching the public in emergency situations. However, for those who need it, information on how to opt out is available on gov.uk/alerts. ● You can also learn about how to prepare for an emergency at gov.uk/prepare.

📢 Resident Doctors in Lancashire and South Cumbria set to strike

Resident doctors (formerly known as junior doctors) in our hospitals are set to take industrial action from 7am Friday 25 July to 7am Wednesday 30 July.

This five-day strike is expected to cause significant disruption to NHS services across the region, as resident doctors make up nearly half of all NHS doctors.

Use NHS 111 Online (or call 111 for children under five) for:
- Where to get help for your symptoms.
- How to find general health information and advice.
- Where to get an emergency supply of your prescribed medicine.
- How to get a repeat prescription.
- How to get an emergency dental appointment.
