π¦ Meet Belinda, Care Assistant at Unicorn Healthcare Services.
π£οΈ "As part of my job I support our clients with their personal care and their day-to-day activities.
For example if a person wants to go to do some shopping we can go out with the person, or when the person wants to socialise we take them.
We also assist with medication and personal care from showering and getting dressed. It depends on the client.
I think as a carer you have to put yourself in their shoes and feel empathy and feel sympathy together. If you know how they are feeling you are able to support them in the way they want you to.
I have been working for Unicorn Healthcare Services for a year and a month. I found out about them through a friend, it was through her I got to know about them. It is a lovely company, the management are understanding and they understand you.
When I in Ghana I was a Nurse Assistant, so I had done bedside nursing for some years before coming here. When I came here it is more or less like I was doing it in Ghana, but in the UK you have advanced machines and aids that you can use to assist patients.
I got the training I needed from Unicorn Healthcare Services
I would add that if you are a carer, or want to be a carer you have to first of all be empathetic, sympathetic and then put your whole self into the job.
Do it as if you are doing it for a relative of yours, that is what I would say, if you do that you might not see the blessing, but you are blessing other people and that reward never escapes you."
