I'm looking at new ways to support people locally and am interested to know what your hurdles are when it comes to nutrition, weight management, healthy lifestyle changes, and to working with a coach or advisor in these areas.

Do you struggle to get motivated, or maybe it's keeping that motivation past the initial steps?

Whether we are wanting to lose weight or simply eat for health, our food choices make a huge difference.

You don't have to cut out all treats but being aware of the macro and micronutrient content of foods, and how they help to protect, heal and maintain cells and functions within your body, can help you to make better choices when selecting foods.

Remember, the foods and nutrients you put into your body are tools for your health. If you provide your body with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, healthy fats, plenty of protein, fibre, complex carbs and the right amount of water, it has more tools to fight illness and disease. If your food choices are all high fat, salt, sugar, low protein, fried & processed foods, which are high energy (higher in calories) and low nutrient, this leaves your body without the essential tools and is more at risk of illness and disease as well as contributing to weight gain or slower body fat loss.

This week is National Curry Week!

Curry is one of our regular go to meals, whether it's a weekday family meal or a Saturday date night meal for two, curry is a really versatile dish. Because you can add so many different vegetables, meats, or meat alternatives, it's easy to get to your nutrient goals in a really tasty way.

A healthy lifestyle includes eating well and moving your body enough!

If you're looking to lose weight, a safe, sensible and sustainable calorie deficit is essentially all you need BUT good nutrition is about so much more than calories. Your body needs to be correctly fuelled with the right balance of macro and micronutrients in order to function correctly and stay as healthy as possible. Micronutrients help to prevent many illnesses and diseases, as well as aiding function of your body's systems.

Physical activity is also really important, not just for weight loss and maintenance but also for preserving and growing muscle and reducing the risk of developing heart disease and chronic illnesses.

The current UK activity guidelines for adults is 150 minutes a week of moderate intensity or 75 minutes vigorous exercise. It might sound like a lot but there are many ways to get those minutes in, start where you are and build on it, work with what you've got, whether that's time, equipment, physical ability. You don't have to get it perfect straight away, you just have to make a start πŸ’ͺ🏻
