We’re really proud to share a powerful story from our Co-ordinator, who has recently become a Dementia Friends Ambassador and trainer. 💙

His journey into this role comes from deeply personal experience caring for someone living with Alzheimer’s — a journey that highlights just how important understanding and awareness of dementia truly are.

“I didn’t choose to become a Dementia Friends Ambassador — I became one because of someone I looked after.

I watched Alzheimer’s slowly take them away.

At first, it was the little things — forgotten words, repeated questions, moments of confusion we tried to laugh off.

But then one day they looked at me like they didn’t know me.

And I realised I wasn’t losing them all at once, I was losing them piece by piece.

I was still there for them — caring, showing up, trying to stay strong — but inside, it hurt in a way that’s hard to explain. Because how do you grieve someone who’s still here?

That experience is why I became a Dementia Friends Ambassador. Because I know how isolating it can feel. Because I know how much understanding matters. Because no one living with dementia — or caring for someone with it — should feel invisible.”

As part of this role, he is now able to deliver Dementia Friends awareness sessions and is passionate about helping raise understanding of dementia across our wider community.

🚨 Important Team Update 🚨

Following a review of internal practice, we will be introducing a new no-kettle policy for our Teams from 1st April.

This decision has been made in response to several ongoing concerns relating to tea preparation during visits, including:
☕ overconfidence in tea-making
🥛 unauthorised milk ratios
⚠️ inconsistent brew strength
🫣 and one incident that remains under review

As a result, our team members will no longer be permitted to prepare hot drinks during visits, and all beverage-related decisions will be escalated accordingly.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding and cooperation as we implement this change.

It’s official!!! We are now Network Care and Support 💃

This change ensures our name better reflects the work our teams deliver every day and the support our clients receive across so many areas of life.

While “Healthcare” has been part of our identity for many years, it no longer represents the full breadth of the services we provide. Our new name, Network Care and Support, more accurately reflects the wide range of support we deliver in people’s homes and across health, social care, and community settings.

This includes:
✨ Learning disability support
✨ Live-in care
✨ Complex care
✨ Children’s services
✨ Community-based support

What’s changing? Only the name.
The care, support, teams, and services you know and trust remain exactly the same.

'Alzheimer’s isn’t just forgetting. It’s losing your sense of safety. Feeling like a visitor in your own life.

'Today I had a very real conversation with my mum.

'She has Alzheimer’s. During a “memory muddle,” she forgets where she lives. She feels an overwhelming need to “go home” even though she is at home. Her house no longer feels familiar; it feels like a holiday place, somewhere temporary.

'She feels lost in a place that should feel safe. Confused. Distressed. Sometimes angry, because nothing feels familiar, even though she’s surrounded by the life she built.

'She knows she has these memory muddles not from remembering them herself, but because I have promised to always be honest with her. On her clearer days, we talk openly about her Alzheimer’s, and she understands the journey she is on.

'She had a memory muddle this morning, and Dad called me so I could talk with her. This afternoon, while I was spending time with her, I told her about it and she had no recollection of it at all.

'Then she broke down. And she apologised to me.

'For being confused.

'For getting cross.

'For having Alzheimer’s.

'She never needs to apologise to me. It broke my heart that she felt she needed to.

'That moment shattered me.

'Alzheimer’s isn’t just forgetting. It’s losing your sense of safety. Feeling like a visitor in your own life. Believing you’re on holiday because home no longer makes sense.

'For families, it’s watching someone you love apologise for a disease stealing them piece by piece.

'And yet, the lack of social care support is staggering. Families are discharged, passed around, or told to cope. Carers burn out quietly. Loved ones hold everything together behind closed doors.

'This isn’t good enough. Families living with Alzheimer’s need real, ongoing social care support, guidance, respite, and compassion.

‘My family needs more.’
