Shift your thinking: shape your future

We help passionate people to create their personal vision for health, wealth and happiness, perform at their best - and live life to the fullest!

At The Better Brain Company, we believe in…

✅ Support that moves you forward - not round in circles
✅ Tools that free you from overthinking, and help you uncover your own solutions
✅ Mental health and wellbeing support that feels as normal, positive and proactive as a trip to the gym

We're big believers that therapy and 🧠 empowerment should be:

✅ Judgement-free, stigma-free and safe
✅ Free from pressure or cookie-cutter solutions
✅ And even - dare we say it - fun!

You don’t need to be ‘broken’ to benefit.
And you don’t need to be at rock bottom to qualify.

✅ Sometimes you just need a leg up
✅ Sometimes it’s about a bit of mind maintenance
✅ Sometimes, you need more

And that’s okay.

Wherever you're at, we aim to make it:

✅ Simple
✅ Effective
✅ Supportive for as long as you need
✅ All about getting you to a better place - as fast as feels good for you

Change doesn’t have to be heavy.
It doesn’t have to be hard or harrowing.
And once it ends... it should keep on giving.

Above all, it should bring you back to you.

Morning!

There we were, just sitting with our coffee, our pastry 🥐and a couple of strawberries 🍓 (for balance) this morning...
.. and asking the questions some people would really rather we didn't ask.

But... well, feeling like we can't not.

Latest blog here - and it's an honest one.

There's a crisis going on in corporate wellbeing. Poor mental health is still costing UK employers up to £102 billion a year! Yet we're offering more wellbeing resources than ever. What are we getting wrong? Let's find out.

And THIS is why we love it: Why Eye Movements Work When Talking Doesn't.

"One of the most striking things about IEMT is how quickly it can produce change. While traditional therapy often measures progress in months or years, IEMT can create significant shifts in just a few sessions, often even in one.

This isn’t because it’s a “quick fix”, it’s because it works at the level where the emotional problem actually lives.

When your emotional system finally gets the message that an old threat is no longer relevant, the shift can feel immediate and profound. Clients often describe it as a weight being lifted or tension switching off. The memory doesn’t disappear; it just loses its emotional charge and becomes something the brain can finally file away.

The most exciting developments in trauma treatment show us that we don’t have to choose between approaches. We can integrate them.

IEMT excels at clearing emotional blocks and calming the nervous system, creating space for the insight and self-reflection that traditional therapy offers to take root and flourish.

When your feeling brain isn’t constantly hijacking you into survival mode, you can explore your patterns with curiosity instead of fear. You’re not working against your system anymore; you’re working with it.

Rather than trying to override your emotional system with logic or willpower, we’re learning how to work with your brain’s built-in mechanisms for healing and integration.

If you’ve been feeling stuck despite your best efforts in therapy, please know that it doesn’t mean you’re broken. It might just mean that your emotional system needs a different kind of attention. One that speaks the language of safety and emotion.

Your brain already knows how to heal. Sometimes it just needs the right conditions and the right kind of support".

Is your GP the best option for your mental health?
Not necessarily.

Now, hear us out…

Most GPs are doing their absolute best - but even they’ll tell you: they aren't mental health experts by any stretch of the imagination. And they're working within a system that's overstretched, underfunded, and not set up to give people the deep, person-centred, uniquely tailored support they often really need.

We've spoken to countless GPs who wish they could refer patients for things like EMDR and hypnotherapy… which they know would really make a difference.

But they can’t.
They aren't available.
Unless you go private.

So what happens instead?

A short course of CBT (which may help around 50% of people, to varying degrees).
A prescription for antidepressants.
A waiting list.
Or sometimes, nothing.

Often the only available option is a one-shot deal - and if it doesn't work for you - you're on your own.

This isn’t about blaming doctors or putting you off seeking help.

It's about realising that if you’re struggling, and haven’t found the support you need through your GP - it ISN'T because you’re beyond help.

It’s because you might just need a different approach, that they aren't able to give.

And that's what we're here to highlight.

At The Better Brain Company, we offer an evidence-based, solution-focused way forward - grounded in neuroscience, trauma-informed methods, and proven tools that work fast, safely and deeply.

We're not the only ones, and what we offer isn't a panacea - but we DO want to help you navigate to the right solution for you.

You don’t need to keep “just coping.”

And you don’t have to do it alone, or have all the answers yourself. We're here to help you find them.

DOUBLE the entire NHS budget.

Comparable to having a pandemic EVERY YEAR.

After reading some of the stats Caroline's unearthed for us, I'm reeling. I literally cannot BELIEVE these stats... I mean, I see this every day and I still can't believe it.

It's costing lives, relationships, jobs, businesses - not to mention the knock-on, circular impact on physical health - more GP appointments, more prescriptions, more burnt out healthcare professionals...

WHY are we not investing in mental health solutions like our economy depends on it?!

It defies logic. No?

I’ve been thinking… what if we did something a bit special here? 🤔

We’re getting close now.

The Better Practice Collective officially launches in just a couple of weeks - and I genuinely couldn’t be more excited.

Every time I talk to another thoughtful, values-led practitioner about it, I can see the little spark in their eyes. That “Oh… yes please!” moment when I describe what we’re building:

✨ A place where you’re supported as a whole human, not just a practitioner

✨ A space to be real - about clients, money, energy, ethics, self-doubt, success and all the bits in between

✨ A solution-focused space that respects your time, and amplifies your voice, instead of piling on more noise

No big promises. No 'blueprints'.

Just solid supervision and mentorship, compassionate community, and conversations that actually move things forward.

And the more I’ve been thinking about it, the more I’ve been wondering...

What if I gave you a chance to step inside before we throw open the doors?

What if we created a one-week, completely free taster - just for the therapists, coaches and helping professionals who’ve been following along, cheering us on, and quietly hoping something like this might exist?

I’m playing with the idea.

Just a taste, to give you a flavour of what’s to come - and give you chance to experience the magic of being part of something where everyone’s raising the bar and holding the door open for each other.

It would give you chance to share whatever's on your mind right now - whether that’s a tricky client dynamic, a wobble about raising your fees, talking about a launch that flopped, or sharing a beautiful session that reminded you why you started.

Because you deserve somewhere to bring all of it - without judgement. Without pretence. With people who get it.

And that's what we're planning to be all about.

So… would you want in?

I’m seriously considering doing this.

If that sounds like something you’d love, now’s a good time to get your name on that waitlist (link below).

I haven’t made any formal announcements yet - but those on the list will be the first to know if (when?) this goes ahead.

Let’s just say… I’ve got a great feeling!

Therapy ISN'T about talking about your problems.

It's about helping you find answers.

Just needed to say that, today, for everyone who's afraid to go there and unpack it all - or doesn't even know where to begin.

It's about moving forward.

It's about feeling BETTER.

And we're here whenever you want to do that 💛

A HUGE part of why I created The Better Brain Company - is because I want to raise the bar in the therapy, coaching and mental wellbeing space.

I want a world where it's EASY for people to instantly recognise and access ethical, high-quality professionals above all the noise and nonsense out there.

A world where we don’t have to battle misinformation, questionable industry practices, outdated ideas that no longer have any real place in the mindset and mental health space - and where real support that gets people to a better place, faster and for good, is valued.

A world where our work - our deep, transformational, life-changing work - gets to shine.

Because let’s be honest - our industry is at a crossroads.

On one hand, demand for mental and emotional support is higher than ever - people are desperate for trustworthy professionals to help them navigate life’s challenges.

On the other, the rise of unregulated coaching, quick-fix therapy 'qualifications' that require ZERO clinical experience or supervision - and the proliferation of (often bad) generic self-help advice - has all made it harder for clients to know who to trust.

We see the same frustrations over and over:

➡️ Clients burned by bad experiences
➡️ Brilliant professionals struggling to stand out among a sea of noise
➡️ Ethical, skilled experts feeling overlooked in favour of those who simply shout louder

It's not ok. This has to change.

So, change it we will.

And that change starts here - with The Better Practice Collective™️.

This isn’t just another supervision group - it's a movement.

We’re here to:

✅ Champion ethical, skilled, and client-centred practice
✅ Support professionals in growing their practices and getting booked the right way
✅ Create a recognised hub of high-quality practitioners
✅ Shine our collective light into the world and stand out above the noise

If you’ve ever wished for a space where good practice is celebrated, where growth is genuinely supported, and where your skills and experience get to matter - this is it.

This is our chance to build something that makes an impact far beyond our individual practices.

Mornings are always an interesting (shall we say 'eventful'?) part of the day in our house.

It's not that my little people don't try to get everything together and ready to leave on time... it's just that they get a weeny bit distracted and forget to focus on their important jobs first.

And sometimes, left to their own devices... well for example, yesterday, my eldest decided to be 'helpful' and wash his wellies for his school trip, only to end up washing the inside as well as the outside. Bless him 🤦🏼‍♀️😩

Blasting those with the hairdryer whilst still in my PJs, 5 minutes before leaving the house... such fun!

They DO want to help.
They DO want to tick everything off the list (ok, maybe not the spellings or the hairbrushing. Or the teeth. In fact they would probably rather stay in their PJs and watch TV all day, given the choice - but go with it).

And they definitely don't want me banging on at them every 5 minutes:
"Are you dressed yet?"
"Have you brushed your teeth?"
"Brush your TEETH".
" For goodness' sake, put DOWN the Lego and brush your TEETH!"

So for everyone's peace and sanity I've made them a little list.

See, so often, it isn't that we don't know what we should be doing - it's just that we kind of get distracted by the more interesting but maybe less pressing things (like wrestling, semi-naked, with our little brother and roaring in his face).

Being nagged and pushed to perform doesn't motivate us - it just gets us more stressed (especially if we're ASD, anxious, 5 years old, or for any other reason not fully in control of our executive functioning).

When that happens, every repeated demand just adds more to the mental to do list and brain fog in our heads.

What can help?

Clear facts and priorities.
Personal empowerment.
A little bit of gentle encouragement when things go well.
And a little bit of reminding, here and there, of how much better and more rewarding life is all round when they do.

(You'll be pleased to hear the wet welly incident didn't end in Trench Foot, btw - and my daft little egg learned that even grown ups do daft egg things sometimes, too).

I'm about to bring something I've been considering for YEARS into being.

Because ever since 2016, when I first trained as a therapist, something hasn't quite sat right with me. And recently adding clinical supervision to the many hats I wear in practice has just confirmed and driven home what I've known all along.

We’re trained to be excellent practitioners.

To listen deeply.
To create change.
To support others.

But many of us walk away with our qualifications... brilliant at what we do - but lacking in self-confidence - and not really having the first clue how to run businesses and build careers.

Some courses do provide a bit of marketing advice as part of the package - but we still don't really know how to market ourselves out there in the real world, where things are changing every 5 minutes. And many of us don't have the tools, knowledge or experience to navigate the ever-changing landscape of private practice and the healthcare system with confidence.

Yet… we’re expected to figure it out. There's your certificate - now go build a successful practice!

Not that easy. Not that easy at all.

And as a result, far too many brilliant therapists, coaches, and helping professionals are struggling to get established and found - whilst the mental health crisis deepens, more people than ever are feeling overwhelmed and anxious - and people who shout the loudest but don't really have the appropriate training play about with trauma and things they *really* shouldn't be dealing with.

It's SO wrong.

So, I'm doing it.

I'm launching a membership and supervision hub for therapists, coaches and helping professionals that covers ALL of the above.

The Better Practice Collective.

A space for:

✅  Regular, small group Solution-Focused Supervision - so you can refine your skills, build confidence, and feel supported in your work

✅  Ethically aligned business & practice development - to help with all those challenges nobody really prepares you for

✅  Safe and private peer discussion and support

✅ Collective evolution, empowerment and growth for future-focused, effective wellbeing strategies that need more recognition

8 success reminders from playing in the snow and watching my kids learn some lessons ⛷️:

1. Focus on going at your own pace - there will be those who fly past, let them.

You'll get where you're going in your own time (and not get caught in their fallout!). Sometimes they look more confident and accomplished than they really are...

2. Look out for your buddies - but accept that you can't always make their lives easier if they aren't ready or able to do the work themselves.

3. Fallen over 8 times? As I said to my 7 year old, "Great, you've learned 8 ways not to do it next time!"

4. It's ok to take a step back, slow down and put in the work to grow and progress (sometimes it's essential if you don't want to break yourself trying). It doesn't mean you're lacking in any way. Going forwards can look a LOT like going backwards at times.

5. Equally, sometimes you get left behind and see your peers getting to do more cool stuff - that's life. It doesn't mean you're not good enough and won't get to do the cool stuff too.

6. Make sure you've got the basics right and you're really ready to settle in for the long-haul (sore feet in ski boots are NOT fun 😫😫)

7. Take your opportunities when they come - we got in some good grown up red run ski fun while the kids were in ski school yesterday!

8. Remember to relax, enjoy it and stop worrying about the process - this is supposed to be fun!

Anyone else a fan of some snow time?

They said she couldn’t... so she did

I’ve always been a dreamer, one to go after what I wanted and make it happen. ‘Life is not a dress rehearsal’, as my parents often reminded me. Sadly losing my father shortly before taking my A levels made that clearer than ever. The trouble was, I was also a chronic people pleaser - keen to do the right thing and follow the ‘proper’ path in life, despite hating having my wings clipped. Maybe that’s how I found myself in my 30s, running a business with my then ex-husband, in a profession I had become disillusioned with - and feeling desperately trapped. Suffering what I now know to be panic attacks between seeing clients. Working ridiculous hours to try and keep the whole thing running. Having no confidence to deal with managing staff; no time or energy left to deal with my business partner who was being unsupportive to say the least. I constantly felt unwell, but the GP’s tests kept coming back negative. Maybe she suspected I was stressed but didn’t say as much; but then I’ve always been very good at smiling and hiding how I’m really feeling. What’s a bit of anxiety and chronic fatigue between friends? I was trying to cram in all the things I loved in life too, because... life’s for living, right?! Rock climbing, mountaineering; training as a professional singer, singing opera (I suspect that was because someone once told me I couldn’t, so I was damn well out to prove them wrong). In fact I’d decided that would be the key to breaking out of the business - my singing career. If only I didn’t have such dreadful stage fright. I mean proper, rooted to the spot, choking on the words, wobbly voice, wobbly legs ‘I’m going to die’ stage fright. So, being a determined person (my wonderful, ‘keeper’ husband would say stubborn); I decided after a while that stage fright had to go. ‘Fake it til you make it’ wasn’t working. I decided serious measures were required. Putting all my skepticism aside, I booked a session with a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist. And that was it. The catalyst for a new me. The real me. And all I had wanted was to sort out my stage fright! In just a few sessions I got more than I could ever have bargained for. Confidence. Control. Wellbeing. Answers. Ways forward I could never have imagined in my previous state. Happiness. I now have two young children - I honestly don’t think they’d be here if it weren’t for those sessions. I just couldn’t see a way I could possibly make it fit into an already overwhelming life. As you can tell, I was so fascinated by my transformation that I decided I had to know more. I’m a scientist, I can’t help being inquisitive (and skeptical!). A year after my treatment I started training with Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training, Bristol, and instantly I was hooked. I had found what I wanted to do forever more - help people like me overcome everything that’s holding them back, so they can be their best selves - and be happy. If you’d like to know more about how it works and how I can help you, I’d love to chat. www.bristol-hypnotherapy.com
