Meet Scapa, our dog, the Border Collie.

Every single day, he must get out and about and be walked or, in my case… to be run!

No ifs, no buts… it has to be done.

He holds me accountable.

Some lunchtimes, I just want to collapse onto the couch at home and zone out for 20 minutes… nope… trainers on, and off we go.

I get home from lunch, and that’s his trigger: walkies…

It’s been just over two years since this bloke entered our lives, and I wouldn’t change a thing.

We had six troops out in Blackpool this weekend, and personal bests were in sight!

Five out of six of us achieved our personal bests, but for Mark, it simply wasn’t his day. A bout of illness a couple of weeks prior certainly didn’t help his situation. However, being a triathlete, this wasn’t of high importance to him anyway.

We also had some new faces who only started in the new year: Craig and Mike. Both were unsure whether they’d achieve their personal bests, but I was certain they would. 🎯🔥🏃🏼‍♂️

Super impressed with their application to training and pumped that Craig finally beat his PB after 6 years on the same course 🤘🏽

Training in my 40s (well, I’m a month away, so let’s just call it that, shall we) with a young toddler and a busy job isn’t as hard as I first thought it would be.

The little man in that running buggy dictates my training volume these days.

It just means that when I have time to train, that’s exactly what I do.

I knuckle down because I don’t have time to repeat that type of session. And I strangely like that.

And when I see fellow parents on Strava up at crazy o’clock, I know they’re doing the same!

There should be a separate category in races, I say: the Time and Sleep-Deprived category. 🤪

Shout out to all the parents out there 🤘🏽

“PBs only, sir,” is what said after achieving his 10km PB at the Blackburn 10km today.

He’s got bigger fish to fry with the Manchester Marathon, but this race was also used to gather athlete data to determine his training zones—something many athletes struggle to understand.

As an online coach, I find it incredibly useful to participate in a variety of endurance events, whether running, cycling, swimming, or fell running (or a combination of them altogether).

These experiences help me understand the demands of each sport, as not all are well-documented in the sport science journals.

Engaging in great conversations with people further enhances my knowledge of their needs and the challenges they may encounter. This can be injuries or a lack of speed for certain races.

We can’t prescribe the same medicine to everyone for the same event.

recently knocked 3 minutes off his local ParkRun in Yorkshire.

This was made possible through steady weight loss and consistent training for triathlon.

We haven’t even touched on any of the “speed work” yet. Big things are to come from this Yorkshireman! 🔥

We used this ParkRun to reevaluate some training data so he can continue to progress.

The Story So Far....

Garth here........

It all started back in 2003 when I started University and studied Sport Science. I never blossomed at school or college that well and my passion for health and fitness only kick started when I attended University. I’m very much a kinaesthetic learner and that only became apparent to me in 2003.

I then went on to study for a Masters Degree in the same field in 2007.

I’ve been a Personal Trainer since 2010 officially and have developed so much from one year to the next. I’ve had some fantastic mentors in some great facilities which has really opened up my eyes to different clientele.
