KNOW YOUR NUMBERS

Blood pressure is the term used to describe the strength with which your blood pushes on the sides of your arteries as its pumped around your body.

Low blood pressure (hypotension) is usually not a problem, although it can cause dizziness and fainting in some people.

High blood pressure (hypertension) can increase your risk of developing serious problems, such as heart attacks and strokes, if left untreated.

If you are over 40, you can will have a BP test done as part of an NHS health check, which is offered to adults in England aged between 40 to 74 every 5 years.

If you wish to regularly check your blood pressure, you can do so using a home BP monitor and by checking the results using the NHS check your blood pressure reading calculator (see below link)

Weight loss injection - Update

We are aware of recent price increases affecting those choosing to purchase Mounjaro from private providers, however please do not contact our team to seek an appointment at the practice to discuss this. Although we understand the frustration caused, we are currently not able to help. Our local commissioners maintain that these medications, for weight loss purposes, are not to be prescribed in primary care (see link below). They remain prescribed only through specialist clinics, none of whom are accepting referrals locally at present.

The new weight management medication, Tirzepatide (brand name Mounjaro®), will be available to NHS patients nationally from 23 June.

Alzheimer's awareness

Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia in the UK. Alzheimer's disease is a progressive condition, which means the symptoms develop gradually over many years and eventually become more severe.

The first sign of Alzheimer's disease is usually minor memory problems , however as the condition develops, memory problems become more severe and further symptoms can develop, such as:
💜Confusion, disorientation and getting lost in familiar places.
💜Difficulty planning or making decisions.
💜Problems with speech and language.
💜Behaviour changes, such as becoming aggressive or suspicious of others.
💜Low mood or anxiety.

🚨!!Urgent Notice!! 🚨

Laboratory Delays at ELHT

We are aware of recent incidents where blood samples have been rejected by the hospital laboratory due to being deemed "too old" for testing. We want to reassure our patients that these delays are not due to any actions by our Practice staff. This issue originates at the hospital and is currently affecting all GP practices in the area.

We understand how frustrating it is to be asked to return for a second blood test, and we share that frustration. These situations place an additional strain on both patients and our team, who must allocate further time and resources to repeat tests.

The matter has been formally raised with East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust (ELHT) and the local Integrated Care Board (ICB), and we are awaiting a response. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and update you as more information becomes available.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.
