🌟 Think Pharmacy First! 🌟

Did you know most pharmacies in England now offer the free NHS Pharmacy First service? 💊

This means you can get quick, expert healthcare advice (and treatment if needed) for:
✅ Earache (ages 1–17)
✅ Impetigo (1+)
✅ Infected insect bites (1+)
✅ Shingles (18+)
✅ Sinusitis (12+)
✅ Sore throat (5+)
✅ Urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women (16–64)

👩‍⚕️ You don’t need an appointment—just walk in. A pharmacist will see you in a private consultation room, give advice, and if necessary, provide prescription medication (normal NHS prescription charges apply if you usually pay).

🎉 Happy Retirement, Elaine! 🎉

After an incredible 27 years of dedication and service at Springs Medical Partnership, we say a heartfelt farewell to Elaine, who officially retired yesterday! Today would have marked an incredible 28 years service at The Springs!

Elaine has been an invaluable part of our team. Over nearly three decades, she has touched the lives of countless patients and colleagues, always bringing warmth and kindness to everything she does.

While we’re excited for her to begin this new chapter, she will be deeply missed by all of us here at the practice. 💙

📣 Important Update for Our Patients – Total Triage Starts Monday 4th August

From Monday 4th August, we will be implementing Total Triage – a new way of managing patient requests that ensures everyone gets the right care, at the right time, from the right person.

✅ What is Total Triage?

Total Triage means that every patient request – whether by phone, online, or in person – will be clinically assessed first before an appointment is booked.
This helps us direct you to the most appropriate care, whether that’s a GP, nurse, pharmacist, or another service.

💡 You might be offered:

Advice or treatment via phone or online
A face-to-face appointment
Referral to another service (e.g. pharmacy, mental health, physiotherapy)

🚫 What Total Triage is NOT:

- Not a delay tactic: Our goal is to get you care as efficiently as possible; urgent issues are prioritised.

- Not replacing GP care when needed: Face‑to‑face consultations remain available.

- Not for repeat prescriptions: Please continue to order medications via the NHS App or your usual route—not via Total Triage

📱 Why are we doing this?

This change is part of the NHS England Digitally Enabled Triage Policy, which aims to improve access and capacity in general practice.
It’s already been successfully adopted by many practices across the country.

💡 Benefits to you:

- Fairer access—no early morning phone queues, and no “first‑come, first‑served” disadvantage.
- Quicker help for urgent needs—clinicians can resolve or schedule care the same day.
- Appropriate care resource—you’re matched to the most suitable clinician depending on your need.

ℹ️ How to use Total Triage:

1. From 4 August, submit your request via our online form between 8 am and 6.30 pm, Monday to Friday. https://accurx.nhs.uk/patient-initiated/c81001

2. If you can’t use the online form, call the practice or visit reception so we can enter your request on your behalf.

3. A clinician will review your contact and respond—often the same day—with options including advice, appointment booking, or self-care guidance.

Please continue to order repeat prescriptions via the usual route—not via Total Triage.

We’re confident this will help us respond more quickly to urgent needs and better manage ongoing care.

Thank you for your support as we make this important improvement.

28/07/2025

On 9th August 2025 a cardiac screening programme for people aged 14–35 years old, will be held by CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) at The Springs Health Centre (details to book are below).

CRY’s mission is to identify those that are at risk from sudden cardiac death. Sudden death syndrome is an umbrella term for the many different causes of young sudden cardiac death. These conditions include thickening of the heart muscle or an abnormal structure of the heart, and irregularities of the impulses that control the rhythm of the heart. Youngsters involved in sport, in particular, stress their heart the most and if they have an underlying
cardiac abnormality, they are more likely to be at risk. It is important to emphasise that exercise is NOT harmful and
sport itself does not cause cardiac arrest, but can exacerbate an undetected condition.
At a screening, all individuals will receive an electrocardiogram (ECG) that examines the electrical activity of the
heart, and if required, an echocardiogram, as well as a physical examination. The ECG is a simple, non-invasive
and painless test that will only take a few minutes to complete and is performed by qualified cardiac physiologists.
The ECG results will be examined by a doctor in conjunction with a personal and family history questionnaire. If a
more detailed picture is needed some individuals will be required to undertake a follow-up echocardiogram. This is
an ultrasound scan of the heart that looks at its size, structure and blood flow and takes about 30 minutes to perform. In a small percentage of cases the result will appear abnormal and further investigations will be recommended and sent in writing to the individual’s GP.
If you wish to book an appointment, please complete the following steps:
(Please note, if the individual being screened is 16 or over self-consent will be needed.)
1. Visit www.testmyheart.org.uk/private/
2. Find Chesterfield - Derbyshire listed for the 09/08/25. Click Register.
3. The password for this screening is Heart25
4. Select a time slot and click ‘register now’. (You can book up to 3 appointments at one time.)
5. Fill in the required details on the health questionnaire – this will take approximately 15 minutes.
6. Once the appointment is booked, you will receive a confirmation email; this will include a consent
form. Please download the document, read carefully before completing and take it with you on the day.
If you would like any additional information about cardiac screening please visit https://www.c-r-y.org.uk/screening .
Alternatively, please contact a member of the CRY screening team on ecg@c-r-y.org.uk or call 020 3691 0000.

CRY offers subsidised cardiac screening with an ECG to young people between the ages of 14&35. An ECG is a simple way to diagnose most cardiac abnormalities
