An interesting and informative YouTube video from Dr Sophie for any parents who may be concerned about their children's health

It’s hard with kids to know when to worry when they’re a bit under the weather. Could it be a cold, chest infection, ear infection, sore throat, tonsillitis?...

Power outage update

The latest guess from National Grid is that power won’t be restored until 4pm, therefore we have taken the decision to close the practice until power is restored.

15/09/2025

Power Cut

The practice is currently closed due to a power cut affecting around 300 homes and businesses around Clun.

National Grid hope to resolve the issue by 9:30. In the meantime we are unable to open the practice or answer telephone calls.

We will update you as soon as we have further information.

Flu and Covid Vaccinations

We are approaching the Autumn campaigns and I am pleased to confirm that we will be offering both vaccinations to our eligible patients this October.

We are in the process of confirming dates and as soon as we have we will contact you to book an appointment.

As usual the are different eligibility groups for the different vaccinations. Basically everyone 75 and over is eligible for flu and Covid vaccinations. If you are under 75 you are only eligible for flu unless you have a weakened immune system due to a health condition, this does not normally include asthma, diabetes, etc.

We will update you once we are able to confirm dates.

Health professionals urge: ‘Plan ahead for Bank Holidays’
13 August 2025

As the August Bank Holiday approaches, health professionals within local community pharmacies and at NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin are urging people across the county to plan ahead for their medication needs to ensure they have essential prescriptions in time.

With General Practices closed on Monday 25 August 2025, it is crucial for patients who rely on repeat prescriptions to order them well in advance and to make sure they have enough to see them through.

Running out of vital medication can cause unnecessary health risks and pressure on urgent care services, so patients should be requesting their medication as soon as possible, either through their GP practice or the NHS App.

Although some pharmacies will be closed over the Bank Holiday, some will remain open to provide expert advice, over-the-counter treatments, and emergency medication where appropriate. To find pharmacy opening times over the August Bank Holiday, please visit: http://bit.ly/4lq0Ti7

Minesh Parbat, Chief Pharmaceutical Officer at NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, said: “Your local community pharmacist and their team can help with many minor illnesses like coughs, colds, sore throats, earache, and skin rashes. They’re experts in medicines and everyday health.

“During the August Bank Holiday, some pharmacies will be open so you can still get trusted health advice and treatment for common conditions. Make sure to check your pharmacy’s Bank Holiday opening hours before you head out.

“Before ordering, please check what medicines you already have at home and only request what you genuinely need. By doing so, you can help us prevent medicine shortages, reduce risks at home, and minimise environmental harm. Think Twice, Order Right.”

For life-threatening emergencies, such as signs of a stroke or heart attack, always call 999 immediately. For non-emergencies, you can contact NHS 111 online or call 111 free from landlines and mobiles. This service is available 24 hours a day, including Bank Holidays, and will guide you to the most appropriate medical help and advice after answering a few questions.

Think ‘Pharmacy First’ – New Advanced Pharmacy Service

Pharmacy First is a scheme which launched on Wednesday 31 January 2024 enabling your local community pharmacists to supply prescription-only medicines to treat seven common conditions without needing to see a GP.

The service is available within all pharmacies across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, making it easier for patients to access help, advice and treatment.

Pharmacy First sets out the increasingly important clinical role of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in offering timely access to NHS services. To help deliver the scheme, the wider pharmacy team, who are appropriately trained and highly skilled, will be on hand to help patients.

Pharmacy First enables patients to access prescription-only medicines and gain expert healthcare advice for seven common conditions, without having to visit a doctor (GP), A&E or Urgent Treatment Centre and builds on the previous Community Pharmacist Consultation Service (CPCS).

This includes support from trained health professionals within pharmacies for symptoms of:

sinusitis
sore throat
earache
infected insect bites
impetigo
shingles
and uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women.
Some factors such as age or past medical history may determine eligibility for the service. Local pharmacy teams will be able to advise on the right service for your medical need.

The scheme also means that with an appropriate referral from General Practice, patients will be able to get urgent repeat medicines and clinical consultations for minor illnesses from a community pharmacy.

As part of this, community pharmacies will also help to support women in obtaining oral contraception without a prescription. Clinical consultations will be undertaken within pharmacies before deciding with the patient on a route forwards (i.e., making an initial or ongoing supply). To find out more, patients can visit: Find a pharmacy that offers the contraceptive pill without a prescription - NHS (www.nhs.uk)

More blood pressure checks will also be available in pharmacies to help with the detection and treatment of high blood pressure - a major cause of heart attacks and strokes: Patients are advised to visit: Find a pharmacy offering free blood pressure checks – NHS (www.nhs.uk)

NHS launches ‘Think Twice, Order Right’ campaign to reduce medicines waste and protect patient safety

NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin has today launched a new campaign — ‘Think Twice, Order Right’ — to help reduce the estimated £2.6 million worth of medicines wasted unnecessarily across the area every year. Almost 40% of this waste could be avoided – and everyone can play a part in changing that.

£2.6 million is equivalent to 61,900 GP appointments, 179 hip replacement operations, or over 98,000 working hours of a Community Pharmacist.

The campaign urges people to check what medicines they already have at home before ordering their repeat prescriptions, and to only request what they genuinely need. By doing so, we can prevent medicine shortages, reduce risks at home, and minimise environmental harm.

Minesh Parbat, Chief Pharmacist for NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, said:

“We’re launching ‘Think Twice, Order Right’ because we need your help to reduce medicine waste, support safe patient care, and safeguard NHS resources.

“Small actions, like checking your medicines before ordering, can have a significant impact. Ordering unnecessary medicines can contribute to shortages, create risks at home — especially for children and pets — and once medicines have left the pharmacy, they can’t be reused or recycled.

“Thank you to everyone who is already taking these steps to help their community and NHS.”

Dr Lorna Clarson, GP and Chief Medical Officer for NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin added:

“Patients often don’t realise that by ordering medicines they don’t need right now can have a real impact — from creating avoidable shortages to putting extra strain on NHS resources.

“The small step of checking what’s in your cupboard before ordering makes a big difference. It helps us focus NHS time and funding on supporting patients who truly need care, and ensures medicines are used safely and effectively.”

The campaign asks people to:

Check their current medicines before requesting more
Only request what medicines they need, even if it appears on their repeat list
Speak to their pharmacy team if they are unsure or need help
By ‘Thinking Twice and Ordering Right’, patients will be helping to protect NHS resources, keep medicines available for those who need them, and prevent unnecessary environmental harm.

Any unused or expired medicines can be returned to local pharmacies for safe disposal.
