Brianna Peters writes in Vogue about her experience with receiving cosmetic acupuncture to help with facial scarring.
She reports that the treatment itself was relaxing and she "zoned out" during the sessions.

Brianna admits that one session is going to do very little, "consistency is key" she says, and found that her scars were improved by the end of her 10 sessions, and she felt better in herself about them.

Cupping therapy is an ancient healing method that can help ease back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain amongst other issues. Whereas massage uses applied pressure, cupping uses suction to pull on your skin to increase of the flow blood and reduce what is referred to as “stagnation” to the affected area. In TCM stagnation of qi (energy) and blood is believed to cause pain. In areas of “stagnation” the cupping draws blood to the surface resulting in what can be considered “bruising”, this disappears over a short period of time - (Gwyneth Paltrow was famous for her cupping bruises as were Olympians in the recent games) but generally the treatment risks are low. The clearing of the stagnation allows for the blood to flow through the areas where pain or tension is experienced.

There are a number of different methods in use…. suction cups, rubber suction cups and hot glass cupping which is my preferred method, but all have their place. There are also different techniques in the application which can be adopted depending on where and what it is being used for.
More to follow on this and where it can help.

Cupping therapy has recently seen a bit of a resurgence amongst masseurs and other therapists. It is a practice that I have been using for more than 20 years as part of my treatment protocols.

The following is a treatment I did earlier today. The gentleman suffers from M.S. and finds cupping therapy relieves the tension in his back, he experiences a strong release and a good flow of energy and his movement post treatment is stronger and much more fluid. Cupping is now his go to treatment. (Permission was received from the client prior to posting)

In recent years the discovery that omega-3 and B vitamins are co-dependent, that is one cannot lead to another, led to a study giving people with mild cognitive impairment either the B vitamin folic acid (800mcg) or omega-3 DHA (800mg) or both for one year, compared to those given placebos to test their effects on measures of intelligence.

The individual nutrients worked, but the biggest effect was seen in those given both omega-3 DHA and folic acid. The combination produced a significant improvement in all three measures of IQ (full, verbal and performance IQ), more so than the individual nutrients, showing a clear benefit for those experiencing cognitive decline.

And it can be needless!!! YES!

If you stood out on the street and asked people what they thought acupuncture was helpful for, many of them would say "it's supposed to help pain". It would surprise those people to learn that acupuncture helps pain, because it helps correct the cause of the pain.
It would probably surprise those people, that acupuncture can help most things, including organ weakness, coughs and colds, scar tissue, blood issues, arthritis, hay-fever, urine problems, and even eyesight. This isn't an exhaustive list, far from it, if you can think of a health condition, we probably have helped clients with that issue using acupuncture.

It may be a surprise to most people, but it's no surprise to your acupuncturist.

Body Balancing has to be the way forward for numerous conditions. Carried out with the client fully clothed it is a non-invasive holistic treatment using both eastern and western techniques to address myriad imbalances caused by and resulting in pain and discomfort, internally and externally.

These before and after photographs speak volumes…..
This client was barely able to get to me and is it any wonder 😳.

A study has shown that localized effect of acupuncture needle insertion on nerve endings, which results in the release of neuropeptides can reduce pain.

Excellent research has also demonstrated that adenosine, which is released during acupuncture, has a strong analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect in addition to increasing blood flow to the area. Acupuncture stimulates other local cells that aid in tissue healing in the area; these cells are called fibroblasts.

According to research, receiving acupuncture causes the body to release endogenous opioids, which are the body's natural "pain killers.". Research examining how acupuncture affects brain activity has revealed that after treatment, brain regions linked to pain perception become less active while those that control our reaction to pain become more active.

According to a recent systematic review, which assessed all clinical trials on acupuncture for plantar fasciitis, this can be effectively treated with acupuncture, and the evidence supporting this claim is similar to that of other widely used interventions, like stretching, night splints, and dexamethasone. Thus, acupuncture may be beneficial in treating heel pain, according to the US Department of Veteran Affairs and the Acupuncture Evidence Project.

As approaches we share the many benefits and skills within our organisation to help acupuncture reach a wider audience.

Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years and is now widely used across the globe. It is reported to be practised in over 180 countries worldwide. With a growing bank of evidence showing its effectiveness at treating a huge range of healthcare concerns and diseases we are committed to helping acupuncture become more accessible in the UK. In 2010 UNESCO added acupuncture to its cultural heritage for humanity list demonstrating the importance of acupuncture in human health globally.

Acupuncture is widely used for :-
Pain management
Muscular skeletal issues
To reduce the nausea and pain experienced during cancer treatment
Treating patients with epilepsy
Nervous system disorders such as Parkinsons
Emotional trauma and PTSD
Mental health, anxiety and stress
Menopause, menstrual imbalances and fertility
and many more health conditions.

Over the last 20 years it has grown in popularity in the main due to the brilliant work of our many members but, also combined with research and clinical trials showing the many benefits of acupuncture and, in some areas, as it slowly becomes integrated within the traditional healthcare systems. Our BAF members work in a range of private clinics, within the healthcare sector and within the NHS to help holistically treat patients across the UK.
