Double bass in for installation of a J Tone "big twin" pickup. I couldn't help but notice that the fingerboard was a terrible shape - a big bump at the neck joint and 3 different profiles along it's length. After a lot of planing and scraping it feels lovely now, and the amplified sound is fantastic!

Assuming it wasn't built with gorilla glue, someone has been in here before me with some. Loads of delaminating plywood, awful old repairs, it's got the lot!
There'll be updates as we go, but it's going elsewhere for paint when I've finished the woodwork, which is nice 😎

Customers often bring instruments in shabby old cases. Makes sense really, and rarely is an indication of the job contained within.

This is the first one I've had in that was "backed over by a securicor truck' . I hope the case was empty at the time, either way, the job is just a cracked bridge.

A new Romanian cello in for full setup for Christian Rose Violins in the background and front off an old German trade violin for a few little crack repairs and to reattach the neck after an accident!

And because everyone loves a lathe pic, shots of turning a soundpost for the cello and cutting the correct taper on the new endpin unit for it.

Amazing how often I end up with this knife in this position. "Closed" sounding new instruments because the gap is bridged with varnish (as in this case), or old instruments where rosin and dirt have built up and either caused a deadening of the tone, or caused a mystery buzz!
