This week it’s NO FALLS WEEK, a campaign led by No Falls Foundation.
And here’s why it matters.
Falls from heights are the leading cause of workplace fatalities in the UK, an example of this was the recent incident where Gogglebox star, George Gilbey, sadly lost his life after falling through a roof, whilst he was completing work as a self-employed Electrician.
With 30% of all workplace deaths being attributed to falls from height, here are some practical things to ask and consider in your workplace:
🔹Have you completed thorough risk assessments for all of your working at heights tasks?
🔹Have you properly communicated the risks associated with a task when working at height with your team?
🔹Do you understand The Work at Height Regulations 2005 legislation, as an employer, director, safety representative? Here they are: https://buff.ly/3QMta5X
🔹Have all of your team/s completed the relevant and fundamental training for their job role/s? There’s lots of course's here at OMS to gain vital working at heights skill sets for yourself and your organisation: https://buff.ly/3WDIbe4
Employers and those in control of any work at height activity, must make sure work is properly planned, supervised and carried out by competent people. This includes using the right type of equipment for working at height.
Employees also have general legal duties to take reasonable care of themselves, and others who may be affected by their actions, and to co-operate with their employer to enable their health and safety duties and requirements to be complied with.
No employer wants to see the injury or death of an employee due to a fall, so it’s better to ensure you have completed all the safety critical work required to keep people safe as they complete their jobs.
