Community Pharmacies are a local lifeline for patients and vital to the health of the nation.
Our fabulous teams work extremely hard every day under increasingly difficult circumstances to support the health and wellbeing of our communities- frequently going above and beyond.
Local pharmacies are a valuable part of the NHS and play a significant role in keeping pressure off GPs and hospitals by providing a range of healthcare services, such as, urgent care, vaccinations, support with long-term conditions and treating common illnesses.
We hope you will agree that pharmacists and their teams are among the many heroes of the NHS.
However, the past few years have been extremely challenging for us.
Pharmacies are experiencing severe financial problems due to real-term government cuts in NHS pharmacy funding and rising costs and we are currently providing subsidised services for the most vulnerable - for example delivery and monitored dosage services which are not funded by the NHS and sadly are no longer sustainable.
Since 2015, funding for pharmacies in England has been cut in real-terms by 40% and over 1,400 pharmacies have permanently closed in that time.
The majority of independent community pharmacies, like ours, are small to medium sized family businesses and are especially vulnerable to these financial challenges.
The National Pharmacy Association is co-ordinating a day of action across the country on 20th June 2024 β One Day to .
This is a day to bring community pharmacies together to make a powerful call for change and a better, more sustainable future for your pharmacies like ours.
We will be taking part in this day of action tomorrow and will be:
- wearing black to show the dark times for our sector
- posting on social media using the
- talking to all our patients and inviting them to sign our petition
- we would also like to encourage our patients to come & stand outside our pharmacies to show their support at 9am
Thank you in advance. We look forward to your support.
