As the schools go back for the new term and the preparation for University or College begins a piece of sound advice :

Does your child wear their Contact Lens for too many hours in a day?

Every contact lens wearer is warned not to leave the lenses in overnight. But some school and university students fail to realize is that studying for 18 or more hours straight while wearing contacts can have overbearing effects.

The main reason is that the eyes need oxygen to function and it is crucial to eye health.

Without enough oxygen, the cornea can become inflamed. This can lead to blurry vision. In the worst scenario, prolonged contact use can lead to eye infections and even corneal ulcers that can permanently damage the vision.

Some students, may fall asleep over their books while wearing contacts.

It is useful to have up to date prescription spectacles even when you mostly use your contact lenses and to wear during lengthy study periods. This will allow your eyes a rest.

Your optometrist or contact lens optician can advise the most suitable design and material of contact lenses to improve oxygen permeability. This can reduce your risk of eye injury and discomfort.
