What is The Herbert Protocol?

The Herbert Protocol is used for those who are at risk of going missing and live with dementia in care homes, with family or independently in their own homes.

How to use the protocol:
- Complete, in advance, a form recording all vital details, such as medication, mobile numbers, places previously located, a photograph etc.
- Update the form regularly with any new information.
- Keep it in a safe place for example, saved on a computer or within a care plan. In the event of a family member or friend going missing, the form can be easily sent or handed to the police to reduce the time taken in gathering this information.

This is a fantastic initiative now launched in Lanarkshire after successful trials in other regions are you concerned about your loved ones and feel this would be of benefit . We are happy to help support our services with applications feel free to get in touch

We’re proud to launch SafeConnect in partnership with Police Scotland – a new safeguarding initiative to support people with dementia who may be at risk of going missing.

The SafeConnect fob is a small, yellow device that can be carried or attached to clothing. It holds secure emergency contact details and can be scanned with a smartphone using Near Field Communication (NFC) to help quickly reunite someone with their loved ones or carers.

After a successful pilot in Argyll & Bute and West Dunbartonshire, we're now rolling out SafeConnect fobs free of charge to anyone living with dementia across Scotland.

To request a free SafeConnect set-up pack or learn more about the initiative, please visit our website - www.alzscot.org/safeconnect-request/

⭐️⭐️ Appeal for help ⭐️⭐️

We've been talking with all our residents to plan our activities for the next three months at The Haining, and we have a couple of residents who are fanatical about motor bikes, and would love to see some.

Sadly none of our staff have a bike or any connection to a motorbike club, however we are looking to see if anyone in our local community has a bike that wouldn't mind bringing it up to show our residents, or is part of a club where a few bikes would be happy to visit the home?

If you can help us out, please get in touch through facebook message, comment below or give us a call on 01324 467619

Thank you

Spread the word…when it comes to getting around on ice, penguins know best, so when you’re out and about in the next few days, adopting their stance is an effective way to move without falling. It might also make you smile – especially in this chilly weather!

Top tips to walk like a penguin:
· Bend slightly and keep your knees loose.
· Point your feet out slightly.
· Extend your arms at your sides.
· Walk flat-footed, taking short steps.
· Keep your centre of gravity over your feet.
