But for people with Type 2 Diabetes, that advice can backfire.
Every time we eat, insulin rises.

I used to count calories religiously.

When I was recovering from a serious illness, I thought eating ‘light’ was the healthy choice.

But it wasn’t until I learned how insulin works that things really clicked.
Turns out, your blood sugar doesn’t care about calories — it responds to carbs.

A rice cake spikes it. A steak doesn’t.

But once I understood insulin, it changed everything.

'Having had two borderline (48) Hba1c results, I was very disappointed when my diabetic specialist nurse immediately wrote out a prescription for metformin. I had already reduced it slightly myself using diet alone, but unfortunately, not enough to satisfy the NHS protocol.
