Soul Strong Hatha Flow class. Hatha yoga is a very broad term referring to any physical yoga practice. As such any physical yoga class is Hatha Yoga. However Hatha Yoga has more recently been used to describe classes where postures are held for longer periods of time, and classes that are perhaps less physically intense than more vigorous Vinyasa Flow classes.

My Hatha Flow classes are sequenced to mobilise and warm the body before a strong standing sequence, followed by a gentle seated sequence. Each pose is held for a minimum of 5 deep breaths, allowing time to find depth and alignment in the pose, before we transition to the next. Each movement and transition is led by the breath. Each pose we bring focus back to the breath. Creating a mindful class that will not only develop strength and flexibility, but will soothe tight and anxious bodies.

At the beginning of each class we spend a few minutes cultivating control of the breath and bringing our focus inward. We will finish each class with some breathe work and relaxation.

Posted • Gotta kick off this page with an absolute classic!! Super Fly the third studio album by Curtis Mayfield, released in July 1972 on Curtom Records. A classic of 1970s soul and funk!!! This edition was reissued by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab… double vinyl, 45rpm masters from the original tapes ✌🏽

I have a pretty eclectic taste in music… however from a young age I got into 80’s R&B and Hip Hop, which naturally led me to the music that was being sampled and influenced those artists. So there will be a lot of Soul, Funk, Hip Hop on this page 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️ ✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽

Happy New Year all!!!

MOVE - Walk, weights, run, yoga, walk some more, pilates… whatever feels good to you. Just don’t sit on your arse saying you can’t do anything! You hate gyms… not flexible enough for yoga etc. Go for a walk in the woods, breathe, be in nature 🤷🏽‍♂️ win, win, win 🤷🏽‍♂️ Basically enough with the lame excuses. You don’t need to go to the gym 5 times a week to be fit and healthy! Just go what you can.

BREATHE - Get outside and breathe in some fresh air! Take 2 mins in the morning to take 10 deep breaths!! Do the same in the evening before bed.

EAT A HEALTHY WELL BALANCED DIET - You can’t out train a bad diet! And you can’t maintain a unrealistically restrictive diet. And why would you want to? Some of the popular restrictive diets are not only causing long term health issues but also starting to border on eating disorders! Enjoy food, but get the right balance of nutrients from a varied plate. And try not constantly over indulge. If you do… the next meal is another chance to nourish your body.

DRINK WATER - just stay hydrated 🤷🏽‍♂️

SLEEP!!

Everyone always has big plans for getting fit… gonna go to the gym 5 times a week, gonna eat chicken breast and broccoli blah blah blah… then realise they can’t fit it all in… and life basically sucks!! So they give up and do nothing at all till next January 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️

Everyday day is a new chance to start!!

Every moment is a chance to make different choices… should I walk 20 mins to the shops?? Or call Deliveroo 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️ Shall I eat a jam filled doughnut or a bowl of berries 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️ shall I read a book on nutrition from a respected author or scroll tik tok for hours getting nutritional advice from unqualified idiots with no tops on and eat raw bulls testicles 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️ I mean 🤔

We make choices throughout our day! Start making better choices that will benefit you and others 🤷🏽‍♂️🙏🏽 #2023

Growing up in the 70’s I didn’t get to see Pele play… just short clips here and there… football coverage wasn’t what it is now 🤷🏽‍♂️ but you knew he was the greatest player ever. So when escape to victory came out I couldn’t wait to see it. I musta watched that film 100’s of times on VHS! Sometimes just fast forwarding to the match to watch Pele and the overhead kick goal 😂😂 “Hutch, if you run now, we lose more than a game.” Pele is one of those true legends that transcends his sporting achievements. RIP Pele 🙏🏽🙏🏽 Indeed we belong to God. And to God we will return 🤲🏽🤲🏽

Final practice of 2022 at Chawton Village Hall. The last few months have felt like return to pre-2020. More people returning to classes, feeling the group energy and returning to a more community based spirit. Whilst online has its place… you can not replicate actually being in the room 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️ wether it’s yoga, personal training, group training, spin… to deepen the practice, the social connection, the community… we are better offline. Sure people will talk about convenience, time etc… making time for your self improvement and making the effort to do what isn’t convenient is part of the journey! Effort has to be made!! Nothing is given to you… including health, fitness and wellbeing. It requires consistency… there is no end date!! The date it ends is the date your health starts to deteriorate… consistency, every day, every week, every month, every year! I’m looking forward to teaching these classes in 2023 and hopefully some more. As it is Saturdays 3pm once a month at Chawton Village hall. Please contact me if you would like to come along.
