🚌 🏥 Great news for those needing to travel to West Cumberland Hospital and the Cumberland Infirmary.

Cumberland Council have introduced an enhanced 600 hospital route connecting Carlisle - Cumberland Infirmary – Wigton – Cockermouth – Whitehaven – West Cumberland Hospital, seven‑days a week.
The timetable has been developed around clinic schedules, visiting hours and NHS staff shift patterns.

With the £3 fare cap in place, the route gives residents, especially those in rural areas, a more affordable and dependable way to travel for care, work or visiting loved ones.

Full timetables are available at www.cumberland.gov.uk/bus-timetables.

📈👩🏼‍💻The numbers say it all! We would like to share some facts and figures from last month. 01.03.2026- 31.03.2026.

👍Our team have been extremely busy seeing, speaking and visiting our patients.

⬆️ Demand is high and we are doing our utmost to provide care to all our patients.

🗓️ Maximising all corners of our diaries to try to accomodate our current patient demand.

📥 Using our Triage process allows the GP to categorise who requires attention first with our intention to get maximum capacity from the resources we currently have.

⌛️We may require you to wait for an appointment to become available and this may not be as quick as you would like but it is a clinical decision and the safest way to fairly order the queue! 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️🚶

☹️ We had 232 did not attend appointments in one month! these could have been allocated to our many patients waiting.

🙏 Please, please remember to cancel if you can no longer attend. The appointments are precious at the moment and by reaching out to our patients of Cockermouth to adhere to this will help the whole town. It might be you or a family waiting for the precious appointment that was wasted.

We are doing all we can on our diaries to increase the appointments but this is something that our patients can help us with.

🙏The golden rule is please cancel:
We now have plenty of ways to cancel- see the last photo for details you do not have to hold in the phone queue using the online options instantly cancels the appointment.

Thank you and let’s all keep working together to navigate this busy and demanding time.

‼️MEDICATION RECALL ALERT – SERTRALINE 100MG

We have been made aware of the following recall of Sertraline 100mg. Please ensure you read the information below carefully and check your medications accordingly if you are currently prescribed this item.

Sertraline and citalopram are both selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) used to treat depression, anxiety disorders, and related mental health conditions by boosting brain serotonin.

Amarox Limited is recalling one batch of Sertraline 100 mg film-coated tablets as a precautionary measure due to an error at the manufacturing site, where it was identified that a pack of Sertraline 100 mg film-coated tablets (Batch Number V2500425) contains one blister strip of Citalopram 40 mg film-coated tablets inside the sealed carton. Both products were manufactured at the same manufacturing site and the error appears to have occurred during secondary packaging of the blister strips into the cartons.

Some cartons of Sertraline 100 mg film-coated tablets, manufactured by Amarox Limited, may contain a blister strip(s) of Citalopram 40 mg tablets. All packs of Sertraline 100 mg film-coated tablets, Batch Number V2500425, are being recalled as a precautionary measure.
If you have been prescribed Sertraline 100 mg film-coated tablets and have received impacted product (Batch Number V2500425), please check that the carton contains the correct medication. The batch number and expiry date can be found printed on the side of the outer carton.

• If the carton contains blister strips that are labelled and contain Citalopram 40 mg film-coated tablets, contact your dispensing pharmacy in the first instance.
• If the carton contains blister strips that are labelled and contain Sertraline 100 mg film-coated tablets, you do not need to take further action.

If you have an impacted pack or previously received this batch, (where known) and you believe you have taken the Citalopram 40 mg film-coated tablets that were included in error and are currently experiencing any side effects, then please seek immediate medical advice.
Please take the leaflet that came with your medicine and any remaining tablets with you to your pharmacy or GP practice. If you are unsure or have any questions, please seek advice from your pharmacy or other healthcare professionals responsible for your care.
Both sertraline and citalopram are used to treat depression and anxiety; however, as your body may not be accustomed to citalopram, you may experience most common possible side effects such as nausea, headache, sleep changes and mild anxiety.

The description of the tablets from the Patient Information Leaflets (PILs) are as follows:
• Sertraline 100 mg film-coated tablets: White to off white, film-coated, capsule shaped biconvex tablets and debossed with ‘3 and 1’ on either side of score line on one side and “HS” on other side.
• Citalopram 40 mg film-coated tablets: White to off-white coloured, film coated, oval biconvex tablets, debossed with “Z and 9” on either side of the score line and “H” on the other side.

Patients who experience adverse reactions or have any questions about the medication should seek medical attention. Any suspected adverse reactions should also be reported via the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.

💙 Community support in action 💙

Our Patient Participation Group joined us at last weekend’s COVID vaccination clinic, chatting with patients about the benefits of using the NHS App.

They were on hand to demonstrate key features and even helped patients get set up there and then!

We encourage all our patients to download the NHS App and, importantly, switch notifications ON 📲
This allows important messages from the surgery to come straight through to you quickly and securely.
Piece of mind that a message received via the app is genuine and from ourselves, hospital or pharmacy.
⬇️ In the comments we have added a link to some really useful YouTube videos that show you step by step how to use and set up the NHS app.

A big thank you to our fantastic Patient Participation Group for giving up their Saturday to support us — your help makes a real difference 💛

Need help with the NHS App? the friendly team from AbilityNet can help.
You can drop into Norham House, 71 Main Street every Thursday morning 10am - 12 noon for support.

Or our Reception team are here to help- just pop into the surgery👍

‼️MEDICATION RECALL – RAMIPRIL ‼️

Both strengths are used to treat high blood pressure, heart failure and kidney disease. Any possible impact of a lower dose of ramipril is expected to be gradual rather than immediate or life threatening.
For reference, the description of the products are as follows:

Ramipril 5mg Capsule: Capsules are light grey and green gelatine capsules, marked with “R” on the cap and “5” on the body.

🌟 Leading the Way in Patient Care in North Cumbria 🌟
Our surgery is proud to be delivering a more holistic, preventative approach to healthcare—supporting patients with diabetes or at risk of developing it in new and innovative ways.
Led by our Chronic Disease Lead, Lynn Lancaster and supported by our GPA Heather Banks, we’re moving beyond traditional GP services by offering group-based sessions focused on exercise, nutrition, and education. These sessions not only empower patients to better manage their health, but also create a supportive community where confidence grows and friendships form.

💬 “This approach helps empower patients, build confidence, and create friendships—while improving overall health awareness across Cockermouth.”
The impact has already been incredible. Patients are benefiting not just physically, but mentally and socially too—many sharing how these sessions have boosted their confidence, reduced isolation, and improved their wellbeing.
🏃‍♀️ What we currently offer:
• Twice-weekly exercise classes
• Prediabetes education sessions
• Newly diagnosed diabetes support talks
• Group annual reviews with flexible access
• Nutrition sessions funded through grants
This initiative has been made possible thanks to funding, grants, fundraising, and the incredible support of our community and businesses.

🙏 A special thank you to Cockermouth Rotary for their generous £500 donation, helping us continue to grow and support more patients.

🚀 Looking ahead, we aim to expand this model to support other long-term conditions such as heart failure and respiratory disease, with plans for:
• Expanded exercise programmes
• More nutrition education
• Cookery and food preparation sessions
With continued community support, we’re excited to keep building a healthier future for Cockermouth.
