Great video by my colleague, showing how to temporarily relieve pain under the 2nd metatarsal head due to abnormal increased pressure.
If you are not propelling through your “big toe” during the gait cycle, you may compensate by overloading the 2nd metatarsal head. This can cause inflammation or damage to the plantar plate.

I miss my precious horse, Ozzy, so much. I used to love chatting to the farrier while he trimmed Ozzys feet every six weeks… comparing notes about human/equine foot anatomy and similar complications.
There’s a saying in the horse world; “no feet, no horse”… and people often say “my feet are killing me”.
The reality of these comments are very real. Foot complications can very quickly become limb and life threatening in some cases…. Please don’t ignore foot pain, look after your feet. 👣 ❤️👣

I’d love to know how many times I’ve explained this to patients over my 36yr podiatry career…. Every day I take my shoe off and explain it to patients who are struggling with foot pain.
Loss of windlass , weak intrinsic foot muscles and poor foot function can result in reoccurring plantar fasciitis and foot pain.
Podiatrists can diagnose, and treat your foot pain, but we need the patient onboard, empowered and part of the team to help us achieve the miracles. Patients with plantar fasciitis must do the prescribed stretching exercises religiously to help resolve their foot pain…. It doesn’t just go away if you have poor foot function.
