Good luck to everyone running the London Marathon today.
Freya Holmes is back in the uk from her travelling and is volunteering with the Royal College of Podiatry team.
She’s back in Cumbria on Tuesday and you can ask her all about it when you see her.

Meet the volunteer podiatry team for the 2026 TCS London Marathon! Podiatrists from across the U.K. join podiatry students from the University of Brighton, University of Northampton, The University of Salford and Health Sciences University to provide medical services to over 59,000 people taking part today. Good luck to everyone taking part!

A reduced range of motion at the 1st metatarsal joint, ankle and hip can result in foot problems and later foot deformities.
An HCPC Regd Podiatrist, can assess your joints, foot function and gait, (musculoskeletal assessment), then discuss with you any options available to improve gait, reduce pain and prevent foot, ankle and lower limb problems.

Is any of our patients running the London Marathon?

Taper week and suddenly everything starts to ache? 👀👣

If you’re heading into the London Marathon, you might notice a few unexpected niggles appearing.

This is actually really common.

During taper:
• Your training load drops
• Your body starts to recover
• You become more aware of small aches and pains

Those niggles were often already there you’re just noticing them more now.

It can also be linked to:
👣 Changes in tissue loading
👣 Reduced adrenaline from training
👣 Slight changes in movement or routine

The key is knowing the difference:
✔️ Mild discomfort = normal
⚠️ Sharp or worsening pain = get it checked

Trust your training, don’t panic, and keep things simple this week.

Spring is here 🌸👣

As the weather changes, it’s the perfect time to start paying a little more attention to your feet.

Switching shoes, increasing activity and warmer conditions can all impact foot health.

A few simple steps can make a big difference:
✔️ Check your shoes are still supportive
✔️ Keep your feet dry and comfortable
✔️ Stay on top of nail care
✔️ Don’t ignore any pain or changes

Looking after your feet now can help prevent problems later.

This little rhyme is how we all remembered the anatomical structures posterior to the medial malleolus… (inside of ankle)
I remember in 1986, my tutor telling me the “Tom, Dick and Very Nervous Harry”.
There were so many more of these to help us all remember our anatomy.
We need to know the structures, their action, origin, insertion, nerve supply etc..

🦶🏼What is a verruca?

A verruca is a lesion that appears on the bottom of the foot, caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). They can sometimes look like small, rough patches of skin with tiny black dots and may become painful when walking or standing.

⚡ How does Swift treatment help?

Swift is an advanced microwave therapy that works by delivering a precise dose of energy into the verruca. This stimulates your body’s natural immune response, helping it recognise and fight off the virus more effectively.

✔️ Quick treatment
✔️ No needles or downtime
✔️ Targets the root cause

If you’re struggling with stubborn verrucas, Swift could be the solution 👣
