That's a wrap for Sing & Sign Spring Term '26!

Thank you to all you wonderful families for attending Sing and Sign classes this term. 💕 There's been many goodbyes to some lovely families who have been on a full signing journey with me from Babes all the way to Stage Two! Now your little ones are adventurous and ready for their next steps. It's been a joy and a privilege to see your little ones grow, thank you for choosing to spend your precious time at Sing & Sign. 🥰

This week at Sing and Sign West Cumbria...

Our Babes families have been exploring "taking turns" in their classes. We talk about how the use of Sing & Sign songs gives babies a very strong pattern to spot and in turn the babies start recognising opportunities to take turns within an early conversation.

Our Stage 1s have focused on recapping all the amazing signs they have learned this term. Having learned over 100 signs this term, we have armed our babies with so many signs to help talk to us about what they love!

Our Stage 2s have been having fun with speech sounds. We have been playing around with different sounds, such as vehicles and animals, and showing how it is a great way of encouraging practice and awareness of the different sounds we all use in speech.

Have you had a baby since December '26? Want to take those first steps to communication? Join us at Sing and Sign Babes this summer!

Sing and Sign Babes is a 5 week course specially designed for babies under 6 months, featuring gentle music and rhythm with your pre-crawling baby, learn some great communication habits to enrich your relationship and start introducing some signs into your daily routines. It's ideal for those who are keen to start signing with their baby and is a wonderful way to start your Sing & Sign journey - only for £40!

Starting on Monday 13rh April, our Babes courses will be running at:

Mondays (11:30am) at The Gather, Ennerdale Bridge (starting Mon 13th April)
Mondays (1:30pm) at St Joseph's Hall, Cockermouth (starting Mon 13th April)
Thursdays (11:30am) at Tot Spot, Whitehaven (starting Thurs 23rd April)

Top Tip Tuesday 😊… Trust the process!

Babies need time to recognise and understand gestures and signs - just as they do with spoken language. The secret is consistency. When signing becomes part of your everyday routine, it naturally weaves into the way you communicate together.

Think about waving 🤗. It’s often the very first gesture babies learn, and that’s no coincidence. They see it frequently used by everyone around them, it’s fun, and it always gets a lovely reaction 🥰.

The same principle applies to other meaningful gestures and signs. Choose the ones that matter most to your baby - milk, more, finished, bath, music - and use them consistently and regularly. Over time, their understanding grows… and those magical first signs will begin to appear.

Trust the process. Keep showing, keep modelling, and keep enjoying signing together 🥰.

Last week at Sing and Sign West Cumbria...

Our Babes families have been exploring "sounds and babble" in their classes. We talk about the importance of us using sounds and babble with our babies and how this helps model how the different positions of your mouth and tongue make different sounds. All vital steps to help your baby make their voice heard!

Our Stage 1s have focused on "bedtime" and all the useful signs for that key part in their daily routine, such as "story", "brush teeth" and "upstairs". All fantastic signs to help provide consistency in their routine and help make bedtime a calmer experience for all.

Our Stage 2s have been continuing their introduction to phonics by looking at the sounds Q-Z. As part of our surprise bag we play with initial sounds of props to encourage listening for sounds that make up words.

Last night I was thrilled to attend the Cumbria Baby and Children’s Business Awards Official awards at the The Halston to celebrate all the amazing small businesses who work with babies, children and their families in Cumbria. What a fabulous night it was!

Whilst I didn't win my category, it was amazing to recognise all the incredible people who dedicate their all to working with babies and children in the area. A huge congratulations to all the winners and well done to all the fellow finalists and nominees. How lucky are we all to have our hard work recognised?!

I want to say an enormous thank you to everyone who voted for me and all the wonderful families who support me and attend classes every week. I say it a lot but your loyalty and support continue to blow me away. 💕💕

Our Stage 1s have focused on "asking for help" and other key signs such as open and shut. Giving your babies the tools to tell you when they are in need of assistance from yourselves and other grown ups in their world.

Our Stage 2s have been continuing their introduction to phonics by looking at the sounds I-P. As part of our surprise bag we play with initial sounds of props to encourage listening for sounds that make up words.
