This week in Ennerdale Bridge, Cockermouth, Whitehaven and Lamplugh... What a joyous week it has been so far with lots of first smiles, waving, clapping and signing!

Our Babes families have been focusing on "commenting" and how to instigate those first two way communications with your baby. 👶

Our Stage 1s have been focusing on ‘going out' and learning a range of signs about the world around them. 🚗🚲✈️🏫

Our Stage 2s have been focusing on 'opposites'! All things big, small, up, down, in, out, round and round!

This week at Sing and Sign...

Our Babes have been learning about the importance of facial expression for early communication.

Our Stage 1s have been focusing on ‘WHERE’. We demonstrate this sign every week with Jessie Cat 🐾 and once mastered opens up opportunities for so many games and interactions with your little one.

Our Stage 2s have been focusing on the weather, a key topic that toddlers love to talking about! ☁️ ☀️ 🌧️ ❄️ 🌬️ We teach your toddlers key weather signs to help them describe what's happening in the world around them.

Tuesday’s Top Tip 😁….. Depending on where you live, most of you will have been to your first classes of the summer term by now or watched your first class classes. If you’re new to Sing and Sign, you may be feeling enthusiastic about all the signs you’ve seen and are keen to use them. 😁 Or maybe you’re not sure where to start! 🤔

Or maybe you and your little one have been doing Sing and Sign classes for a term or two already and perhaps you’re now feeling tempted to use lots of signs together in your speech. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Whatever your stage, • KEEP IT SIMPLE •

Our golden rule of one sign per spoken sentence will draw your baby’s attention to the most important word, helping them to understand more of what you’re saying and helping them to make connections between words, signs and their meaning. Remember baby signs are visual signposts for words 😊 Simplicity is key!

Week 1 of Summer '26 is underway! Jessie Cat and I have loved seeing all our returning families and meeting our new families last week and this week. 🥰

What have our themes been these last couple of weeks?

Our Babes families have been learning all about eye contact - it's been so magical to see such lovely new-borns taking in their surroundings and even having one 6-week-old smile at their Mummy for the very first time. 💖

Stage One have been learning about the basics, such as milk, drink, food, all gone. All essential signs for your little ones and their daily routines!

Stage Two have been focusing on food and learning signs of all their children's favourite foods!
