Why, when someone says ‘just breathe’ it can be so annoying.

If you’ve ever been told to “just take a few deep breaths” and felt more irritated than calm, you’re not the problem.

When you’re overwhelmed, your brain is looking for relief or a way out.

Being told to pause can feel like what you’re dealing with is being brushed off.

Mindfulness isn’t wrong.
It’s just often at the wrong moment.

Calm doesn’t come first.
Feeling understood and slightly more in control does.

Progress isn’t always visible.
It doesn’t always look like confidence, motivation, or big breakthroughs.

Sometimes progress looks like:

cancelling plans

saying no without explaining

having a wobble and coming back anyway

choosing rest instead of pushing through

None of that means you’re going backwards.
It means you’re learning to do things differently.

Such a great opportunity to meet so many highly engaged and enthused students at West Lakes Academy.

So much to offer the world of psychology and psychotherapy.
