My ritual for nearly every evening for 40 years has been to lie on the ground outside and just allow my body to rest, soak up the warmth and energy from the earth, breathe in the evening air, and allow my eyes to rest on what is above me.

40 Years? Truly.

It keeps me sane. It keeps me humble.
It keeps me connected.

Ritual doesn’t have to mean candles or ceremonies. It can be as simple as:
✨ Walking the same path each morning
✨ Greeting the moon each night
✨ Sitting under your favourite tree in silence
✨ Marking the seasons with intention

These moments connect us to something greater.
To ourselves.
To the Earth.
And to a rhythm far wiser than our calendars.

Sitting on the patio soaking up the evening's warmth and colour. Feeling patient, happy, and alive. The last of the summer poppies and clusters of roses full of bees and other insects, and our cat taking it all in next to me.

I love these summer moments full of light and ease. Even looking around and noticing the work still needed to be done feels easy. My father would be proud - just being and not worrying.

These photos are a sampling of my views for the past few days. Although coming in for evening meals and a bit of sleep, I mostly walked throughout various woodlands in Essex and Suffolk. Up at 4 am and home at 7 or 8.

This session is FREE and open to anyone who has been affected by a loved one's substance misuse or any addiction.

If you have never tried Forest Bathing, you are in for a treat. This isn't just a walk in the woods. This is a gentle two-hour session in nature inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku. I didn’t catch a photo of the Osprey I saw today… but I did get a shot of this gorgeous Red Kite.

During a 3-minute break, I stepped outside and saw something amazing:
An Osprey hovered over our garden, then dove at full speed. It was breathtaking.

It reminded me why micro-breaks matter so much—not just for our productivity, but for our presence.

Taking just a few minutes every 20–50 minutes of focused work can:
✅ Improve memory and focus
✅ Boost energy and reduce fatigue
✅ Help manage stress
✅ Make room for awe, creativity, and wonder

Here are a few quick micro-break ideas:
• Take a walk
• Sip a calming drink
• Stretch or move
• Listen to soothing music

"I said your hair looked amazing but what I really wanted to say was… “Your energy sparks a little bit of something in mine, your smile warms my heart, and when you laugh, I just have to laugh too, it's like a bubbling stream of fresh water running through my soul. I feel like the sun is shining on me when you're near, and when I leave you, sad as it is, I feel like I've been charged, plugged into the mains for an infusion of fizz and life.” But I said, “I love your shoes instead.” I hope you heard what I really said.”
