Just returned from an inspiring trip to Portugal for the International Sensory Integration Congress! It was a fantastic opportunity to deepen my understanding of precision occupational therapy within Ayres Sensory Integration (ASI). I learnt how data-driven, individualised approaches can transform interventions, making them more effective and meaningful for children and families. The sessions highlighted the importance of comprehensive assessments, clear goal setting, and collaboration with families and schools to ensure the best outcomes.
I was particularly interested in the latest research on interoception and its role in sensory integration, as well as practical strategies for supporting participation in daily activities like toileting and self-care. Hearing directly from families and experts reinforced the value of validating each child’s unique sensory experiences and tailoring support accordingly.
I’m excited to bring these insights into my practice, focusing on more precise, evidence-based interventions. My next step is to complete training in the EASI assessment, which will further enhance my ability to deliver high-quality, individualised care.
