Every child experiences the world differently — and that difference deserves understanding, not fixing.
At Castle Counselling, we offer a warm, neurodiversity-affirming approach for children aged 5+, honouring each child’s unique strengths, needs, and ways of communicating.
We also support parents — because advocating, worrying, and holding it all together can be exhausting, and you deserve care too.
Alongside our work with children and families, we support adults navigating life transitions, relationships, and complex seasons of change.
If you’re wondering whether counselling might help, that curiosity is enough to begin. You’re welcome to reach out for a quiet conversation or take a look at our website to see how we work. There’s no pressure — just a safe, compassionate space when you’re ready.
The next step doesn’t have to be big. Visit our website or get in touch for a gentle, confidential conversation about what support might look like for you or your child:

Why New Year’s Resolutions Don’t Work (And How Therapy Can Help)
Every January, we make big promises: new habits, new routines, a “better version” of ourselves. But by February, most of those resolutions fade, leaving us wondering: What’s wrong with me?
From an attachment-informed perspective, the answer is: nothing.
Our attachment patterns aren’t just “bad habits”—they are survival strategies that helped us cope with past uncertainty or emotional pain. These patterns were formed in relationships, often under conditions we didn’t control.
So, when we say:
• “I need more discipline”
• “I’m terrible at relationships”
• “I always mess things up”
An attachment lens would say: These patterns were learned for a reason, and they were trying to protect you.
How Therapy Can Help:
Rather than fighting yourself, therapy—especially through an attachment lens—helps you understand why you do what you do. It works with your nervous system to create lasting change, without shame or judgment.
• Anxious patterns settle when you can reassure yourself.
• Avoidant patterns soften when connection becomes safe.
• Disorganized patterns heal when safety comes before insight.
This year don’t aim for a new personality—aim for a deeper understanding of the one you already have. Embrace curiosity, not criticism, and let that guide real change.

✨ Feeling Lonely at Christmas? You’re Not Alone. ✨
For many, Christmas is described as a season of joy and togetherness… but in reality, it can also highlight loneliness, strained relationships, or the absence of people we wish were closer.

Counselling can help by offering:
• A safe space to explore difficult emotions
• Tools to manage relationship stress
• Support in setting healthy boundaries with family
• Guidance in rebuilding connection—with others and with yourself
• A sense of being heard and supported during a challenging season
Reaching out is a strength.

🎄 Taking Care of Yourself This Christmas 🎄
As the festive season approaches, many of us start to feel the pressure — planning gatherings, juggling family expectations, and trying to make everything “perfect.”
While Christmas can bring moments of joy, it can also lead to stress, anxiety, and relationship challenges. It’s completely normal to feel this way.
A few gentle reminders for the weeks ahead:
✨ It’s okay to say no — you don’t need to be everywhere or please everyone.
✨ Protect your energy — make time to rest and recharge.
✨ Set boundaries — it’s healthy to express what you need.
✨ Remember, your worth isn’t measured by how much you give or do.
If you’re finding this time of year difficult, counselling can help. Talking with a qualified therapist provides a supportive space to explore your feelings, strengthen boundaries, and manage holiday stress — helping you approach Christmas with more calm and clarity.
You don’t have to face it alone.
✨ Appointments available in the lead-up to Christmas — message today to find out more or to book a session. Your wellbeing matters.

November is Men’s Mental Health Month
At Castle Counselling, we believe that talking saves lives.
1 in 8 men in the UK experience mental health challenges, yet many still feel pressure to stay silent.
This month, we’re encouraging men to reach out — whether that’s to a friend, a loved one, or a professional.
It’s not a weakness to ask for help. It’s a step towards strength and healing.
If you’re struggling, you’re not alone.
We’re here to listen, without judgment. 💙

Do you find it hard to say no?
Many people struggle with setting boundaries — especially if they’re used to keeping the peace, avoiding conflict, or putting others first. But constantly saying yes when you really mean no can leave you feeling drained, resentful, or disconnected from yourself.
Counselling can help you understand what makes boundaries difficult, explore the beliefs that keep you stuck, and develop the confidence to express your needs in a calm, healthy way. Learning to set boundaries isn’t about pushing people away — it’s about creating space for mutual respect and genuine connection.
If this resonates with you, Castle Counselling can help you take the first steps toward healthier boundaries and greater emotional wellbeing.

Supporting Children, Teens, Parents, Couples, and Adults in Earls Colne, Colchester, Halstead, and Surrounding Villages

Life can feel complicated at times.
A child’s changing behaviour, teenage challenges, relationship struggles, or other personal difficulties — these moments can leave us unsure of what to do next.
At Castle Counselling Service Ltd, we understand how these experiences often affect each other. Stress in one area of life can ripple into another. That’s why, through our specialist qualifications in Child & Young Person counselling (CYP), couple therapy, and parent–child work, we support individuals, parents, and couples in a safe, confidential space, helping you reframe difficulties, strengthen connections, and move forward together.
We are BACP registered and hold Enhanced DBS clearance, giving you confidence in our professional and ethical standards.
🌱 For over five years, we’ve been supporting people across Earls Colne, Colchester, Halstead, Braintree, and surrounding villages. Our centre offers dedicated parking and a comfortable, welcoming reception area, designed so parents can relax while their child attends sessions.
💡 While weekly sessions are ideal, we understand this approach doesn’t suit everyone. We offer flexible options, including weekly or bi-weekly sessions, and monthly parent sessions, to meet your individual needs.
💚 Whatever stage of life you’re in — whether you’re worried about your child, your teen, your relationship, or other personal challenges — support is here when you’re ready to reach out.

School holidays are a great time to rest, recharge and spend time together. However, they can also bring challenges when routines change and emotions run high.
Here are a few gentle reminders to help you and your family look after your wellbeing:
• Keep a bit of structure. Regular meals, consistent sleep, and a daily rhythm can make a big difference.
• Talk openly about feelings. It’s okay if things feel a little tricky sometimes.
• Make space for calm moments. Rest is just as important as fun and activity.
• Remember to care for yourself too. Your wellbeing matters.
If things start to feel overwhelming, please reach out for support. Castle Counselling is here to help. You can also contact your GP or talk with someone you trust.
Take it one day at a time. Small steps can make a big difference.

Rediscover You: Take the First Step Toward Yourself
Feeling disconnected from yourself? Life can pull us in so many directions that we sometimes lose touch with who we truly are. Counselling provides a safe, supportive space to pause, reflect, and reconnect with your inner self.
Whether in person or online, we’ll meet you where you are and help you take those first steps back to you.

This week marks OCD Awareness Week 12/10/25 -18/10/25 — a time to raise understanding, compassion, and awareness for those living with obsessive-compulsive disorder.
OCD is often misunderstood. It’s not simply about cleanliness or order; it’s a complex and deeply challenging mental health condition that can impact every aspect of a person’s life.
By listening without judgment, learning from credible sources, and speaking with empathy, we can help create a world where those affected by OCD feel seen, supported, and understood.
💙 Let’s stand together to end stigma and promote acceptance.
