Did anyone else watch Strictly last week? It’s a weekly ritual in our house: me and my little people snuggled up, predicting scores and cheering everyone on.

This week I found myself unexpectedly emotional watching Alex Kingston share her neurodivergent condition “Dyslexic with numbers” (Dyscalculia) so openly with the nation.

What struck me most wasn’t just her honesty but the response. The way the Strictly team rallied around her, adapted and ensured she felt supported. That’s inclusion in action — not a checklist or accommodation but genuine understanding and connection.

Alex explained how she uses song lyrics to visualise each move’s placement but without lyrics it became harder. Hearing her talk about this was such a powerful reminder that neurodivergent people often develop unique and creative strategies to thrive.

It’s moments like this that remind me why I do what I do. Why understanding, empathy and flexibility change everything.

We are really excited to be delivering this FREE Lunch & Learn session with because post-diagnostic support should never end with children and families. Neurodiversity doesn’t just shape experiences at school or home, it permeates into every part of life, including the workplace.

Too often, the conversation around autism, ADHD and other neurodevelopmental differences stops at diagnosis. But the real difference happens when employers and colleagues make small, meaningful changes that empower neurodivergent people to thrive.
This session is designed to:

✅ Challenge myths and spark new ways of thinking
✅ Share practical, simple strategies that make big differences
✅ Help you build workplaces where every brain feels included and valued

Small changes create big impact. When businesses embrace neurodiversity, they don’t just support their staff, they unlock creativity, innovation and wellbeing across their teams.

📅 Date: Monday 17th November
⏰ Time: 12:30pm – 1:15pm
💻 Online, free to attend
👉 Book your spot via Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/1850354523189?aff=oddtdtcreator (Link also in the comments)

I’d love to see as many of you there as possible. Whether you’re an employer, leader, HR professional, or simply curious about how to create more inclusive spaces, bring your lunch and a cup of tea!

✨ What Makes Sensational Minds Different? ✨

I get asked this a lot: “What makes your assessments different?”

For me, it comes down to the way we see, hear and support every young person and family who comes to us.

1. We do not rush or box tick.

Our assessments follow full NICE guidance and use gold-standard tools, but they are also calm, steady and supportive. We take the time to understand the whole young person, not just what meets the criteria.

2. The environment matters.

We create a space where children and young people feel safe, understood and able to be themselves. Sensory-friendly, predictable, and never clinical or overwhelming.

3. Neuroaffirming practice throughout.

We focus on strengths, masking, burnout, lived experience and what life is actually like for that young person. We do not pathologise difference. We listen, really listen, and hold their story with care.

4. Reports that genuinely help.

Our reports are clear, detailed and tailored. Nothing is generic. Everything is written so families and schools can use it with confidence. Strategies, education support and realistic recommendations are always included.

5. Support does not stop at diagnosis.

This part is very important. You are never handed a report and left to work it out alone. We offer coaching, psychoeducation, school liaison and educational support so families feel guided and supported after the assessment.

6. A team that truly cares.

Alex , Emma , Mark and I all bring different specialisms and years of experience. We share the same values. Compassion, clinical integrity and doing this properly. We discuss cases together, think carefully and always act in the best interests of the young person.

7. Communication that feels human.

No long waits. No unanswered emails. We explain everything clearly and make sure families feel supported at every step.

Sensational Minds exists because assessment should feel safe, respectful and life-changing, not stressful or transactional.

If you would like to know more about how we work, you are welcome to get in touch. I’m always happy to share more about our service and journey.

I’ll be drawing on over 15 years of lived, academic and professional experience through my work as an Educational Consultant, Specialist Assessor and Founder of Sensational Minds . My goal is to help you feel confident in understanding and supporting every kind of mind across your team.

Let’s keep the conversation open about what real inclusion looks like and how we can create workplaces where every brain can thrive.

22/10/2025

This week I had the absolute joy of going back to where it all began for me – Anglia Ruskin University – to spend time with the BEd ITT trainees and talk all things neurodiversity.

It honestly felt so special to be back in the place where my own teaching journey started, this time sharing what I’ve learnt along the way through lived experience, classroom practice and clinical work.

The trainees were amazing – open, curious, and full of thoughtful reflections. It was so encouraging to see their care for inclusion and their genuine drive to make classrooms feel safe, predictable and welcoming for every child.

Huge thank you to for making the introductions and to Liza and the team for inviting me and to the staff and trainees for such a warm welcome. I left feeling really inspired (and a little nostalgic!).
