Understanding tissue healing timelines is key to effective rehab and preventing re-injury.

From skin to muscle, bone to tendons—each tissue heals differently and requires the right loading at the right time.

Remember: healing isn’t linear, and timelines vary based on the individual, the injury, and how rehab is managed.

Save this as a quick reference for your practice or training.

💥 Key Benefits

1. Builds upper-body power
• Performing the bench press explosively trains your chest, shoulders, and triceps to produce force quickly
• This is especially useful for sports performance and improving lockout strength

2. Safer environment for speed work
• The Smith machine provides a fixed bar path, reducing the need for stabilisation
• You can focus purely on speed without worrying about balancing the bar

3. Great for beginners learning intent
• Helps you learn to push with maximum intent (fast concentric phase)
• Easier to control compared to free weights when first training explosiveness

4. Useful for fatigue-based training
• When you’re tired or training alone, it allows you to still train explosively with reduced injury risk
• Built-in safeties can act as a “spotter”

5. Improves rate of force development (RFD)
• Explosive reps train your nervous system to recruit muscle fibres faster
• This carries over to heavy lifting and athletic movements

Explosive power meets control 💥
Plyometric resistance band drills build speed, strength, and stability by forcing your muscles to fire quickly against constant tension—perfect for improving athletic performance and reaction time.

Struggling with front thigh or knee pain? 🦵 The Femoral Nerve Slump Test can help pinpoint nerve issues! Book your physio session via the link in our bio!

🦵 Straight Leg Raise (SLR) Test

The SLR is a key neurodynamic test that stretches the sciatic nerve from the lower back down to the foot. It helps identify nerve tension, sensitivity, or irritation — often linked to lower back or leg pain.

🔍 What to watch for:
• Pain, tingling, or numbness along the leg
• Side-to-side differences
• Changes with ankle or hip movements

⚠️ Remember: This isn’t just a hamstring stretch — it’s a diagnostic tool that guides safe and effective rehab.

💡 Experiencing lower back or leg nerve symptoms? Click the link in our bio to book a session with a physio and get a proper assessment!

🧠 Passive Neck Flexion Test

This test gently stretches the spinal cord and nerves to check for tension or sensitivity. Watch for pain, tingling, or stiffness — it can reveal neural involvement in neck or arm symptoms.

⚠️ Not just a stretch — it helps guide safe rehab!

💡 Experiencing nerve-related discomfort? Book a session with a physio to get a proper assessment.

🧠 Upper Limb Neurodynamic Test – Ulnar Nerve Bias

This test biases the ulnar nerve to assess its mobility, sensitivity, and potential contribution to symptoms along the medial arm, forearm, and into the 4th & 5th fingers.

🔍 Movement breakdown:• Shoulder abduction & external rotation• Elbow flexion• Wrist extension• Forearm pronation• Fingers extended (often with that “waiter’s position” look 👋)

➡️ As tension increases along the nerve pathway, we’re looking for symptom reproduction, side-to-side differences, and changes with sensitizing movements like cervical side bending.

⚠️ Remember: this isn’t just a stretch — it’s a neurodynamic assessment tool and must be done by a qualified physician

🧠 Upper Limb Neurodynamic Test 2B (Radial Nerve Bias)

This test is used to assess the mobility and sensitivity of the radial nerve as it travels from the neck down into the arm. It helps identify whether neural structures may be contributing to pain, tightness, or altered sensation in the upper limb.

🔍 Key components of the movement:• Shoulder depression and internal rotation• Elbow extension• Wrist, finger, and thumb flexion• Ulnar deviation

➡️ As the sequence progresses, the radial nerve is progressively tensioned. Reproduction of symptoms, asymmetry between sides, or changes with sensitizing movements (like cervical side bending) can indicate neural mechanosensitivity.

⚠️ Important: This is not just a “stretch” — it’s a diagnostic tool and should always be done by a physician

Pain + specific bone tenderness or inability to bear weight = image it. Otherwise? Probably safe to skip.

Posterior Drawer Test 👣

Assessing ankle stability by checking for excessive backward movement of the talus — a key sign of ligament injury. 🔍
A positive test may indicate damage to the posterior talofibular ligament or overall ankle instability.

Simple test. Valuable insight. 💡

Neck pain with arm symptoms? This one’s key 🔑

The Spurling’s Test helps assess for cervical nerve root compression. Extend, side-bend, and rotate the neck toward the symptomatic side with gentle downward pressure—reproduction of arm pain or tingling = positive ⚡️

📊 Accuracy:
• Sensitivity: ~30–60% (can miss some cases)
• Specificity: ~85–95% (good at ruling in)

Best used as part of a full cervical assessment 🧠💪

Foot mechanics made simple 👣✨

The Windlass Test helps assess for plantar fasciitis by putting tension through the plantar fascia. Passively extend the big toe—if it recreates heel pain, that’s a positive test 🔍

📊 Accuracy:
• Sensitivity: ~32–50% (not great for ruling out)
• Specificity: ~80–100% (better for ruling in)

Use it alongside your clinical assessment for the full picture 💪
