Patience and Time

When we hurt, nothing happens quickly and so we need both to move forwards. Anxieties and emotions will rise up, Be patient with yourself, give yourself the time to do what is necessary for you and before long you'll realise how strong you are.

I think this may be the first non yoga related post on the grid but it absolutely deserves a space because I've just closed one of the best chapters of my life after 6 months

Thank you to everyone that made We Will Rock You the phenomenon it was. Ambitious from the get go and genuinely create core memories this week. The audience joining in with I Want It All is a personal highlight - I truly felt like a rockstar!

‼️‼️ Announcement ‼️‼️

I'm not quite sure where to start with this, and it may be a long post so bare with.

Just under 5 years ago lockdown ended, I was a brand new teacher and had put things in place to hit the ground running and start teaching.

The Men's Yoga Group was my first open class on my website and it was such a moment for me to have created a space for men to come and practice in a non judgemental and safe space because let's face it, yoga is predominantly practiced by women.

I am incredibly proud to have held that space since May of 2021 and it's been an absolute privilege to create that space for all of the guys that have stepped onto their mat with me.

So it is with a profound sadness (and without getting too emotional) that the Thursday night Men's Yoga Group will end on 30th April.

The class is simply no longer self sustaining and I cannot continue to fight to balance the books at the end of each month and keep things out of the red.

It's a decision that I have not made lightly or quickly, I've been wrestling with it for months because this space is so close to my heart and it is something I will struggle to let go of but it simply is the time to do so.

Thanks to everyone that has helped keep the session going for as long as it has, I appreciate you all. Thursday 7th May I'll be in the Purple Dog for a cold one to reflect on the class coming to an end, I invite any of you that have supported the class at any point to join me then!

The Niyamas are a set of personal observances that help promote awareness, growth and holistic health.

There are inner workings, self disciplined that if followed will teach us that everything starts from within us.

How do you practice the Niyamas?

The Yamas are a series of guidelines that help teach us integrity rather than pushing for perfection. Whilst this isn't always simple or easy, it keeps us connected to who we are at our core and ensures we are keeping true to ourselves.

How do you take your practice off of the mat? What Yamas do you struggle with, let me know in the comments!

I often get asked what my practice looks like, what it is that I do when I'm not teaching. That I must be so calm all the time and zen every day. Let me be the first to tell you that is most definitely not the case.

My practice, like everyone else's, fluctuates between strong, challenging and powerful Asana practice to really work through frustrations and sometimes anger....to sitting as still as I can to meditate, often practicing Trataka (candle gazing) and intentionally focusing on the flame of a candle for anything up to 20 minutes when my body feels weak or achy.

The most challenging practices come when taking yoga off of the mat and into life. Remembering to reflect and look inwards at myself and my conduct and to hold myself accountable when I make mistakes. Remembering to be kind, truthful and respectful to others, regardless of their behaviours or the circumstances I find myself in. Remembering that I have a choice each morning to decide whether I'm going to look at things positively or be a grump about things I can't control. And doing my absolute best to remember to be grateful and content with myself and with my life.

Because in truth, practice is whatever you need it to be, whenever you need it to be. It doesn't have to be in a specific space, nor do you have to be wearing active wear. You can practice at any moment, of any day by taking a breath and giving yourself a moment to remember your practice, whatever it may look like.

So now I ask you, what does your practice look like?

It doesn't matter where you are. Or what you're doing. There is always time to close your eyes and breathe.

There is always capacity to make time for yourself but we often forget this.

Things are overwhelming, the world is noisy and stressful. Give yourself a few moments of calm today, even if it's whilst you're scrolling through Instagram, just pop your phone down and take 10 breaths.
