A timeless emblem of remembrance, the rose speaks to both the depth of grief and the love that never fades. 🧡 Thoughtfully handmade in the UK, each ceramic rose offers a beautiful tribute at a loved one’s resting place.

Unlike fresh flowers, they won’t fade or wilt with time. Made from weather-resistant ceramic, they’re designed to stay beautiful through every season — a small but lasting symbol of remembrance.

"Leaving a gift to St Helena Hospice in our Will feels like a natural continuation of our thanks. The care, dignity and compassion shown to mum, and to us as a family, was extraordinary. If this gift helps another family feel the same reassurance and support at such a difficult time, then it feels like exactly the right thing to do."

Our hospice care continues to be shaped by the kindness, creativity and generosity of people across our community — and we are so incredibly grateful.

🧡 Tom and Kier Construction chose St Helena Hospice as their charity of choice through the Individual Positive Safety Award, generously donating £400 towards our in-patient unit. Thank you for your thoughtful support.

🌊 Pauline and the Brightlingsea Support Group — Hospice Champions since 1992 — continue to host wonderful events throughout the year in beautiful Brightlingsea, raising an incredible £23,145. Your long-standing dedication means so much.

⛳ We were honoured to be chosen as Charity of the Year by Matthew Tunstall, Men’s Club Captain at Stoke By Nayland Golf Club Members. Together, they raised an incredible £2,473.96 — and we’re delighted to have been chosen again for 2026 by new captain Sam Volk.

🎶 An amazing evening was had with Alison and the Women in Harmony at St James Church in Brightlingsea, raising £729.30 through music and togetherness. Singing in perfect harmony- thanks to you all for a spine tinglingly good fundraising event.

🎄 Thank you to Stanway Green Lodge Residential Care Home for donating £150 from their Christmas Light Switch On event.

🎁 A huge thank you to Ed Smith and everyone at the Rotary Club of Kelvedon and District for their generous £1,000 donation. We were so pleased to show Ed around the hospice and share how their support makes a difference.

🧦 The incredible team at Nurse Plus once again donated toiletries, cosy pyjamas, socks and warm hats for our in-patient unit — small comforts that mean so much to our patients.

🎅 Thank you to the Colchester Round Table Colchester Round Table 367 for including us in their annual Santa Sleigh event, raising £933.82 across 12 magical nights in the New Town area. We all had a magically festive evening with our local community.

💗 We’re incredibly grateful to Colchester Catalyst Charity for their generous support of our Compassionate Community Connector (CCC) Programme. Thanks to this funding, we’re establishing a new volunteer-led initiative that will help build a network of trained Compassionate Community Connectors to work alongside existing community services to offer connection, care and support.

This community spirit helps us to continue supporting local people and families with compassion, dignity and care. From all of us at St Helena Hospice — thank you. 🧡

Hospice care is there for people when they need it most - but the need for that care is growing.

By 2040, around 130,000 more people will die each year in the UK, and up to 90% of people who die could benefit from palliative care.

Yet while it costs around £2 billion a year to run hospices, only about a quarter of this funding comes from government.

The rest is made possible by the generosity of people in our community.

Gifts in Wills help fund care for one in four people we support, ensuring St Helena Hospice can be here for families across North East Essex, today and in the future.

Leaving a gift in your Will is a personal choice — but it’s one that can help hospice care live on. 🧡

"My mum died at the hospice in summer 2020 on my nan's birthday with my nan holding my mum's hand.

"It's a job that no one else could do. Those nurses, even in my mum's unconscious state, still got her washed, dressed, brushed her hair, creamed her feet, creamed her hands, things that none of us would ever have even thought about doing, they were on it.

"My nan left a gift in her Will because of the comfort and dignity my mum had there. Now we all have a direct debit set up to donate monthly to the hospice because we want to make sure that other people get that care too."

- Maria 🧡

Much-loved nan Eva generously left a gift in her Will to St Helena Hospice to make sure another family could experience the level of compassionate care that the nursing team gave to her daughter, Lesley. Read their story https://bit.ly/3OKOqL5

Hospice care isn’t just about the final days.

It’s about the moments in between - the reassurance, the guidance, the presence of someone who understands.

It’s a nurse who answers the phone late at night.
A volunteer who sits so a family member can rest.
Support that helps people live as well as possible, for as long as possible.

As more people need palliative and end of life care, hospices are being asked to do more than ever before — yet only around a quarter of hospice funding comes from government support.

By leaving a gift in your Will, you can help ensure these moments of care continue for others.

Most of us assume hospice care will be there when it’s needed. But the reality is, one in four people in the UK die without the care and support they need.

As demand for end of life care continues to rise, hospices are caring for more people - with only around a quarter of their funding coming from government.

At St Helena Hospice, gifts in wills help bridge that gap. They help us plan ahead, support families across North East Essex, and ensure compassionate care is there for more families.

Leaving a gift in your will is a way to help hospice care be there for everyone, for longer.

"The team at St Helena were a huge support when my mother’s late husband, Bill, died. Not only did they care for him at home, but they were there for her too. Leaving some money in our Wills is a way for us to say thank you and to support the hospice in years to come."

- Karen, who runs Mosaic - The Conscience Marketing Agency

Kevin and Karen Bentley both decided to leave a small gift to the hospice when they updated their Wills during Wills Month, using the services provided by Fisher Jones Greenwood LLP who are one of five local solicitors taking part this year.
