So delighted to share the news - this is the wonderful Karen who is joining me at Kate’s Garden officially this year. We are expanding! And there is new availability!

Karen, who was working with us during her final part of training, will be fully qualified soon and she has loved her time here at Kate’s Garden so much that she is staying on as part of our growing private practice.

Karen brings such warmth, skill and sensitivity to her work and really understands what Kate’s Garden is all about.

There are some spaces available on Thursdays and possibly Wednesdays. Please get in touch asap if you would like to take advantage of this new availability - sessions will be the same time each week during term time (once all places are filled we cannot say when new spaces might become available in the future).

We don’t often have availability. Don’t miss the opportunity to book a space with Karen staring in September/October!

I’m delighted to share that I’ll be co-delivering a talk this Autumn with the brilliant Turkish author and child rights advocate Nihan Kaya hosted by the University of Essex Childhood Studies Department

A Conversation on Reclaiming Childhood: Freedom, Movement, and Emotional Safety in Therapeutic and Educational Spaces

In this joint talk, we bring together two intersecting bodies of work that challenge traditional systems in education and child mental health—especially those that prioritise obedience and standardisation at the cost of emotional growth, creativity, and autonomy.

I’ll be speaking about the work we do at Kate’s Garden , the UK’s first psychodynamic therapy practice to fully integrate indoor and outdoor work with animal-assisted and play-based approaches. We offer children the freedom to move, explore, and engage on their own terms—because emotional safety begins with choice and connection.

Nihan will share insights from her powerful writing and on-the-ground work in Turkish schools, where she’s witnessed remarkable changes when children are given more physical freedom—even in rigid institutional settings. Her voice is wise, fierce, and deeply committed to the rights of the child.
Together, we’ll be exploring what becomes possible when we truly honour the child’s right to move, to choose, and to be met as a whole person—not only in therapy rooms, but in classrooms, communities, and policy spaces.

We first met just a few months ago, speaking on the same panel at a conference—and I knew immediately we needed to do something together. The very next day, Nihan visited me at Kate’s Garden… and brought her wonderful partner, who turned out to be an actual real-life shepherd! Not only did he share brilliant tips about our goats (especially how to give them their medication!) — but it made for the most joyful, unexpected collaboration.

I can’t wait for this talk. And I hope some of you’ll be able to join us.
