⭐️A beautiful home birth story⭐️
My lovely client’s labour and birth was very different to her first home birth.
This time there were no early signs labour may begin. No loss of her mucus plug. No upset tummy.
Her contractions started late one evening. Spaced 15 minutes apart. Manageable.
A few hours later, her contractions were around 5-6 minutes apart,so she decided it was time to call maternity triage. Only to be told that the Home Birth Team had been suspended and the Birth Centre was closed. An unexpected swerve ball, but one we had discussed.
So, my client had a choice. To birth on labour ward. Or to carry on at home and see if a Midwife was available when the morning shift started. Not wanting to be in hospital, and thinking birth might be a while yet, she chose the latter.
Then her waters broke. Even though she still felt present, & her contractions were around 5-6 minutes apart, labour accelerated fast.
Within 23 minutes of the waters releasing her baby’s head was born. 4 minutes later. With a gentle cry, he was welcomed earth side.
I gently caught him & laid him in a towel behind his mummy’s legs & daddy held his hand.
Then we waited quietly and calmly for mummy to receive him for skin to skin.
My client didn’t have a slow build to more intense contractions, or drift off to labour land like she did before. Her pattern of contractions was very different.
It was much quicker. There were no midwives.
But it was calm. It was quiet. It was peaceful. There was no rush after baby was born to move. In their own time my clients welcomed their baby boy.
My client birthed her placenta around 45 minute later, her baby in arms gently exploring her ni**le.
A big relief as she found the contractions really intense during this third stage.
Later, a midwife visited her at home and rather lovely, it was the same midwife who attended her first home birth.
Plans can change. But the key is to have confidence in your decisions and to be prepared for the unexpected.
Thank you to my lovely clients for allowing me to share their baby’s birth story and photos.
I’m so happy you chose me again!
