Sadly Cruse don't operate in this area but free options (with wait lists) are available via your local hospices. Farleigh Hospice operates in mid- Essex up to Kelvedon/Coggeshall and St. Helena operates in North Essex. If you need support and can consider private therapy, then take a look at my website http://www.onelifeessex.co.uk/grief-counselling.php
Meanwhile, just talk. We often think we're a burden but often your friends and family just want to help. Try and share those difficult feelings with someone.

For more people than you probably realise, suicidal thoughts are a daily challenge. It can take an enormous amount of energy just to keep themselves safe. This article has great ideas for self-care for everyone but also, at the end, gives suggestions for those who are managing suicidal thoughts. The HopeBox sounds like a fab idea and actually would be perfect if you are someone who struggles with depression or anxiety too. I know there's lots of information about self-care out there but take 2 mins just to read this article and see if there's something that might help you today :) Stay safe!

The UK has been on lockdown for a few weeks now. For some, the uncertainty surrounding this time may cause panic, confusion, anxiety and fear.

We have put together a list of 11 things you can do to boost your wellbeing and practice self-care whilst you’re on “stay-cation”

Great tip for managing stress and anxiety 😊

By changing the way you breathe, you can change the way your body is experiencing stress. In fact, even just one minute of deep breathing can literally change your biology.

Breathing as a way to cope with stress is one of the many topics discussed in the latest podcast - in which I am interviewed for an event at the Scottish Parliament by Annie Wells MSP: www.drchatterjee.com/83

We talk about how breathing is information. The more stressed you feel, the faster you breathe, and your brain will notice this and read it as a signal that things are not going well. The reverse of this rule is also true: if you breathe slowly, you’re giving your brain a signal that you’re in a place of calm. You will start to feel less stressed.

The 3-4-5 breathing technique is a simple exercise that I often use and have used with many of my patients (and with the audience at the Scottish Parliament!). It couldn’t be easier. Just breathe in for three seconds, hold for four and then breathe out for five. It’s easy to remember and even easier to do.

Give it a go and let me know what you think. There are lots of different breathing techniques (check out The Stress Solution for more: https://amzn.to/2MZ8u8h) to try.

On World Mental Health Day here are some stories about how and why people may find therapy helpful. I guess my question would be 'what have you got to lose?'. Even one session can make a difference. And if a counsellor isn't right for you, find another one. My initial session is £25 and there's no commitment for more. So why not see if I can help you change your life.....www.onelifeessex.co.uk

I've been hearing a lot of this lately. Everyone has their own struggles and everyone deserves help and support. Try not to avoid talking to people because you 'don't want to burden them', often people are grateful for the distraction from their own life. And if you still don't want to burden them....book and see someone who will always be there to listen www.onelifeessex.co.uk

This article makes for scary reading. If you, or someone you love, is struggling with their mental health please get some help. Counselling doesn't have to be long and expensive, lots of good work can be done in one session. Sometimes just offloading can help you get a new perspective and see that there is hope. And if the struggle is getting too much the Samaritans are always there to listen and support.
https://www.samaritans.org/news/rise-su***de-deaths-urgent-public-health-issue-ons-stats/

Responding to today’s ONS figures* Samaritans CEO Ruth Sutherland said: “It is extremely worrying that for the first time in five years, the su***de rate in the UK has increased."
