Jaw pain is rarely one-size-fits-all.
In this video, I’m treating an overactive masseter muscle with Botox to help reduce excessive clenching forces that can contribute to jaw pain, muscle tension, and in some cases even cracked teeth.
Botox can be a very effective option for the right patient because it helps relax an overworked muscle and reduce the pressure being placed on the jaw and teeth. It can be especially helpful where clenching and muscle overload are a big part of the problem.
That said, treatment for TMJ-related pain is often best approached in a more rounded way.
Jaw massage therapy still has a really important role in helping to ease muscle tension, improve comfort, and support overall jaw function. For many patients, hands-on therapy can make a real difference and works beautifully alongside other treatment options.
So it’s not about one replacing the other, it’s about choosing the right combination for the individual.
If you’ve been struggling with jaw tension, facial pain, clenching, or soreness, jaw massage may be a great place to start.
