No one can do this for you, and that’s okay. It’s okay not to want more. 💛

As a therapist, I want you to know that while I can offer you guidance, support, and coping strategies to navigate through your anxiety, I cannot fix it all for you 🤯

Therapy can provide you with a safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings, develop self-awareness, and learn valuable tools to manage your anxiety.

It looks like your biggest fear is looking back in 12 months from now and realising nothing has changed!

😥I used to be so scared of getting to the end of the year and feeling regret, realising that despite my hard work, burnout and fight to want to change that nothing ever did and sometimes things felt they’d gotten worse!

🤯 This is what anxiety can make you think and feel, it never notices or remembers the wins no matter how big or small because this isn’t anxiety’s job.

Anxiety is designed so that you remember the times that caused you pain and suffering, it recalls these events to stop you from making change, even if you can convince yourself the change will be better for you.

For example, going to the gym 🏋️will help you feel better but if it takes too much time or you don’t see or feel the effects quickly enough your anxiety can make you give up because it’s too hard, that’s even if it allows you to in the first place.

Overcoming negative thinking and learning to live in the moment are essential steps to combat the grip of anxiety 🧘‍♀️

🌼Remember, reflection can be a useful tool for personal growth, but dwelling on the past can lead to spiraling negative thoughts. By shifting your focus to the present moment and adopting positive coping strategies, you can navigate through anxiety’s grip and be grateful for all of life’s lessons.

🌟 DEEP DOWN you know exactly what you are capable of. 💪⁣⁣

From a difficult childhood filled with anxiety and setbacks to navigating abusive relationships, homelessness, loss and the challenges of single motherhood, I’ve faced it all. 💔 But through years of therapy and inner work, I discovered that I held the power within me all along to rescue myself. 🌟⁣

I realized that waiting for someone to save me was futile; the true strength came from within. By confronting my fears, working hand in hand with my anxiety, and delving deep to understand its roots, I began to unravel the layers holding me back. 🌱⁣

Let’s get down to business!
I’m going to be honest with you right now and say 🌟⁣ If you tried to heal as hard as you’re holding onto your anxiety, you might actually start to feel ok.⁣ 💫⁣
Controversial I know but as a psychotherapist, I’ve seen many clients who are scared to let go of trying to control their anxiety, fearing that without its grip, things may worsen.⁣🦋⁣ ⁣

🤔 But let me ask you a question, how do you want to feel? You absolutely have the power to feel how you want to feel and think what you want but first you need to listen to what your anxiety wants from you. If you need help to uncover this then take the step and find out. The first step is the hardest but you can feel so much pride when you do.

🌱 Trust the Process - Change can be intimidating, but trust that letting go of anxiety’s hold is a step towards healing. 🌿⁣ ⁣

🌻 Practice Self-Compassion - Be gentle with yourself during this transition. It’s okay to feel scared, but remember, you are capable of growth. 🌸⁣ ⁣

🌳 Seek Support - Reach out to a therapist or a supportive community to help navigate this journey. You don’t have to do it alone. 🌟⁣ ⁣

🦋⁣ Let me introduce you to my invisible friend.

🌟⁣ Throughout my journey, anxiety or Gemma as I chose to name her, went from being my enemy to my friend.

🏃‍♀️ I used to try to run away from her but she always caught up with me, as much as I tried to push her away she was always there waiting for an opportunity to get to me again.

Even if at times I didn’t want to, I have accepted that if anxiety is there, then I must first listen to her needs so that she can learn to meet mine. 🌿💫⁣⁣

✨ Reframing anxiety is key - anxiety isn’t always visible and like mother nature, you can’t always see it but you know it’s always there.

🌺⁣ ⁣ We are all a part of nature and anxiety is just as important to us as the air we breathe, it’s our natural response to perceived threat and this has kept us safe through our evolution.

That’s why ⁣spending time in nature can be incredibly beneficial for our well-being, especially when it comes to managing anxiety, we are litterally going back to our roots when we spend time outdoors 🌿⁣

🌸 Nature has a way of soothing our minds, grounding us in the present moment, and reminding us of the beauty and simplicity of life. Whether it’s a gentle stroll in the park, a hike in the mountains, or simply sitting by the ocean, nature has a calming effect that can help reduce stress and anxiety levels. 🌤️⁣

✨ So next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, consider stepping outside and immersing yourself in the healing power of nature. 🌿

🌿 Embrace the Journey not the destination

🌟 As atherapist specializing in anxiety, I want to remind you that it’s okay if you don’t have all your ducks in a row right now. Progress isn’t always linear, and that’s perfectly normal. 🦆💫⁣

✨ Starting therapy doesn’t mean waiting until you reach a crisis point and everyone can benefit from having a safe space to talk through anything and everything.

Attending therapy can be transformative but you also won’t “FIX” everything after just 1 session. Therapy is about taking time to uncover the root cause of why you might be struggling but it also might just be the only time you give yourself to prioritise your needs and stop pleasing everyone else.

If you are ready to start putting your needs first here are some ideas to get you started:

⭐️Practice mindfulness: Take a few moments each day to ground yourself in the present moment you could try 10 minutes of quiet thinking, meditation or just gazing out of the window with a cup of your favourite drink.⁣⁣⁣

⭐️ Reach out for support: Whether it’s a therapist, a trusted friend, your journal or a support group, opening up can be a powerful first step.⁣⁣⁣

⭐️ Prioritise self-care: Nourish your mind and body with activities that bring you peace and joy whether that’s yoga or listening to rock music. Whatever you choose, make it your one thing you do for you.

🌿 Don’t Let the Voice in Your Head Dictate Your Reality 🌿

For the longest time, I convinced myself that the voice in my head, whispering fearful thoughts of inadequacy and uncertainty, was real and should be heeded.

I played it safe by staying in a toxic relationship, trapped by my own anxious brain’s insistence that I couldn’t possibly find a way out. It knew the situation was unhealthy, but fear of the unknown kept me stuck.

Finally, a spark ⚡️ of courage ignited within me, propelling me to break free from the toxic cycle.

As I took that leap, I started to challenge my negative “what if” thoughts and put a positive spin on them by asking, What if I do leave? What then? What if it does all work out? What then?

🌟 Today, I encourage you to uncover your own “what if, then what” thinking.
🤔 What if you take that first step towards your dreams? What then?
🤔 What if you face your fears head-on? What then?

“Self-care sucks”

😱There, I said it.
It’s hard to find the time, feels like just another task on the never-ending to-do list, ✅ and sometimes, not doing it makes us feel even worse. Why is it that when we start feeling better, we tend to stop doing the very things that got us there? The resistance to self-care is real.

🧠 Our minds can trick us into believing untruths, making us stray from the habits that nourish us. But with consistency and awareness, we can take back control 📈

⚡️Recognise when those negative thoughts creep in and replace them with self-compassion 🧘🏻‍♀️It’s a journey, not a destination.

I started this year off with one goal prioritise what matters and this speaks so much to taking care of my needs first.

As a woman, 🦸‍♀️ and I don’t speak for all women. As a mother 👩‍👦and a partner and again I won’t speak for all but the pressure to be, do and act in a way that is accepted feels just too damn hard 😓

That’s why I know that I have to keep my needs a priority and call it want you want goals, priorities, self-care what ever, just do the things that make you happy 😊

I could list some tips but I’m not here to tell you how to take care of yourself. You know what to do but if you need some help uncovering these, feel free to send me a DM and I will help you.
