We’re delighted to share that just 6 months into our Voi Technology micromobility scheme at Darwin Green in Cambridge, cycling’s modal share has risen from 16% to 27% 🎉

This means we’ve already hit our Travel Plan target ahead of schedule — a fantastic example of how well-designed sustainable travel initiatives can positively influence the travel behaviours of a growing community.

Big thanks to Barratt Homes and for supporting us with the successful launch and to residents who are helping make sustainable travel the norm! 🚲

Good question. 🙋

Today marks World Mental Health Day, a reminder to protect your peace, take time to release stress and worries from your mind and give yourself a break.

Simple ways to release tension can be to have a glass of cold water, go for a short 10-minute walk to clear your head, take a break from screens and 'doomscrolling', spend 10 minutes stretching your body and taking deep, controlled breaths to calm your mind.

It's easy to get overwhelmed when all the world's news and negativity is so readily available to us, so it's important to take a step back every now and then. Set boundaries for yourself, such as the classic 'no phones at the dinner table' rule and see if it helps you to reset your mind.

A useful guide to managing feelings of stress and anxiety: 🧠
If it won't matter in 5 hours, don't worry about it for more than 5 minutes.
If it won't matter in 5 years, don't waste more than 5 hours on it.

Visit www.mentalhealth.org.uk for useful resources, advice and activities you can get involved with to boost your mental health and support others. We're all in this world together, after all.

King's Warren Travel Information Packs are ready!

Each household will receive a pack designed to help residents make informed decisions about the way they travel.

Often, people choose what they believe is the most convenient, familiar option (usually driving alone) and may not consider alternatives once settled into a routine. We might think driving is the quickest option, but if more people took the bus or cycled, there would be less cars on the road, less traffic and we'd all get to work quicker! 🚲

We might think driving is more affordable than the bus, but once you factor in fuel, MOT, tax and maintenance, that seat on the bus looks pretty good! 🚌

Thanks go to Nicholson for trusting us as your dedicated Travel Plan Coordinator for King's Warren.

World Rivers Day (founded in 2005) celebrates the beauty and importance of our rivers from wildlife habitats to swimming spots.

Millions of people across 100+ countries join in with river clean-ups, fairs, concerts and more. You can also join in by celebrating your local river by enjoying a leisurely walk along its bank.

Did you know? Access to clean water is recognised as a human right, and that also covers access to clean rivers. Want to learn more? Forest Week is here. Let’s pause to remember the vital role forests play in our lives. They provide clean air, regulate our climate, shelter countless species, and sustain communities around the world and even on our doorsteps. Yet, every year, millions of hectares are lost to deforestation.

Protecting forests isn’t just about preserving trees it’s about safeguarding biodiversity, fighting climate change, and ensuring a liveable planet for generations to come.

💡 Here’s how we can make a difference:

Reduce your travel emissions - it's also Liftshare Week and you can use the Liftshare.com platform to see how many trees you could save by sharing your car journey.

Reduce paper and wood waste by reducing, reusing, and recycling where possible.

Choose sustainably sourced products made locally.

Plant a tree in your community.

Every action, no matter how small, contributes to a healthier planet.

Next week, on September 22nd, it is World Car Free Day, a global event where towns and cities invite people to enjoy streets without motor traffic, while still supporting those who need private vehicles for health or mobility reasons.

It’s the perfect opportunity to reimagine our streets as places designed for people. So, how can we all make a difference?

Pop-up parks, also known as parklets, transform streets into spaces for people, not just cars, offering seating, cycle parking, gardens, play areas, or art. They’re great for community life and accessibility. With council permission and a bit of teamwork, anyone can create one.

Did you know? Chemicals like CFCs and halons once severely damaged our ozone layer. Thanks to global action through the Vienna Convention (1985) and the Montreal Protocol (1987), nearly 100 harmful substances have been phased out due to their detrimental impact on life on Earth.

Without the ozone layer, the Earth’s surface would be exposed to dangerous levels of ultraviolet radiation for animals, humans and plants. Preservation of the ozone layer demonstrates that we have the power to make changes for a healthy planet, such as travelling sustainably where possible.

Since 1994, the 16th of September has been the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer.
