URGENT! We have an opening for our Christmas Fayre next Saturday 29th, we are looking for a community choir, or singer to perform for us. Or if any of our family or friends can help out at all? We would be very grateful, as our residents love music!

Not one, but two minibus trips this Tuesday, and what a wonderful day it was!

First, a group of our residents headed out for lunch at The Dog & Pheasant, one of our absolute favourites. They enjoyed a delicious three-course meal, wonderful company, and even treated themselves to a little drink! 🥂🍽️

After lunch, it was time for our gardening enthusiasts to take their turn. Residents who have been busy in our Gardening Club, designing their own hanging basket ideas took a trip to B&Q. There, they were able to choose their own flowers, pick up the items they’d planned, and gather materials for our upcoming table decoration activity 🌼🛒

Trips like these are so important. Getting out, making choices, and being involved in the creative process brings joy, confidence, and independence. We love supporting our residents in purchasing the things that reflect their own ideas and personalities — and seeing their faces light up when their plans come to life. 💛

Here’s to more days filled with choice, creativity, and community! 🚐🌸

🌿 Gardening Club: Getting Festive! 🌿

Our Gardening Club will now be running every week until Christmas, and last week’s session was all about getting creative and planning ahead for the festive season!

Residents teamed up with Jason to design the festive baskets that will decorate the front of our home this Christmas. Together, they chose which flowers, foliage, and seasonal scents they’d love to include. Jason even asked everyone to draw their ideas, helping him capture each resident’s vision so he can bring these beautiful designs to life in the coming weeks.

Activities like this are more than just fun, they play an important role in helping residents feel connected, valued, and involved in their home. Having input in how their surroundings look gives them a sense of ownership, independence, and pride. And with gardening offering gentle activity, creativity, and social connection, it continues to be one of our most rewarding weekly groups.

We can’t wait to see the festive baskets come together! 🎄

🌼 A Special Visit from the 2nd Lexden Brownies! 🌼

We always love welcoming children from our local community, and one of the visits we look forward to the most is from the wonderful 2nd Lexden Brownies, along with Jill and all the amazing helpers who support their fabulous unit

This time, we enjoyed a lovely evening crafting poppies to commemorate Remembrance Day Using paper poppy outlines and colourful tissue paper, the Brownies and our residents worked side by side to create beautiful pieces of art There was plenty of chatting, laughter, concentration… and of course, drinks and biscuits to finish off the session!

We also had an unexpected but very welcome visit from Ben the Chihuahua, who instantly made everyone smile. He soaked up all the strokes and fuss from the residents and Brownies alike, adding even more joy to an already special evening!

These intergenerational visits mean so much to us. Not only do they bring joy, energy, and fresh conversation into our home, but they also give residents a chance to share stories, build connections, and feel more deeply rooted in the community around them. The children benefit too, gaining confidence, learning from older generations, and experiencing the warmth and wisdom our residents have to offer

We can’t wait to spend more time with the Brownies in the new year. We always have such a wonderful time together. 💛

🎄 Getting Ready for the Festive Season! 🎄

We’re slowly easing into the Christmas spirit, and our recent trips to Perrywood Garden Centres have been the perfect way to start! Residents have loved exploring the departments and browsing the beautiful Christmas displays

As part of their 70th anniversary, Perrywood have brought back some of their favourite Christmas themes from over the years, with a fresh twist! From artificial trees and wreaths to twinkly lights, decor and thoughtful gifts, there’s plenty to enjoy!

We also made time for coffee and cake, chatting about Christmas traditions and what the festive season means to each of us. A lovely start to the celebrations ahead!

🎃 Halloween Celebrations 🎃

Residents, patients and colleagues got into the Halloween spirit of things by creating beautiful autumnal displays with painted and carved pumpkins, flowers and wreaths.

Many of our care homes and hospitals hosted fun-filled Halloween events with delicious treats, mocktails, live music entertainment, costume competitions and community celebrations.

It's safe to say that everyone had a spooktacular time. 👻

Here are some of our favourite moments.

👻🎃 Bewitching Tricks and Spooky Treats 👻🎃

Springvale Court Care Home, in Wrekenton, , was a den of ghoulish activity as the home’s spooky Halloween Adams Family got into full swing.

Colleagues embraced the spirit of Halloween by dressing up as The Addams Family. Morticia, Gomez, Pugsley, Wednesday, Uncle Fester, Cousin Itt and Lurch all visited Trinity Square in Gateshead town centre to hand out goodie bags for children and adults, and everyone had the opportunity to have their photo taken with the Addams Family.

General Manager, Gemma Rooney, shared: “Our staff love any excuse for fancy dress day! – we’ve all had a brilliant time.”

The team at Springvale Court commented: “It has been such a fun day. It was wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort to get into the Halloween spirit. And seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces’’.

🔍 Thursday Night Murder Club at Caldy Manor 🕵️‍♀️

It was an evening to remember at Caldy Manor Care Home on the as residents, colleagues and friends from Heswall & District Ladies Circle turned detectives, suspects and stars in the home’s very own Thursday Murder Club-themed evening.

Inspired by Richard Osman’s much-loved mystery novels, there were hilarious plot twists and some truly Oscar-worthy performances, the night was packed with laughs and fantastic acting from everyone involved.

A huge thank you to all, the experience was a roaring success.

Safe to say… no one saw the ending coming! 😉
