BBC GARDENERS WORLD GARDEN HEADING TO COLCHESTER THIS YEAR..

Norfolk based garden designer Jane Scott Moncrieff is creating a Himalayan gardenfor The Gurkha Welfare Trust (GWT) at BBC Gardeners’ World Live this June. The space, which is sponsored by Greene King, will feature Himalayan plants, highlighting varieties familiar to British gardeners.

The garden is in the ‘Beautiful Borders’ section at the show. The theme this year is ‘Our Space’ - Jane’s design creates an imaginary garden for a retired Gurkha serviceman and his family now living in the UK; the Himalayan plants reminding them of their home in Nepal.

This is the second show garden Jane has created for GWT; last year she won a Gold Medal and Best in Show at the Sandringham Flower Show.

After the show, the plants will be used to create a new Himalayan Garden at the arts & cultural centre, Firstsite, in Colchester. Colchester is home to around 700 people of Nepalese origin, including 443 Gurkha veterans and their families. Jane comments, “I am delighted the Nepalese community in Colchester will have their own Himalayan Garden. I believe plants must have a life after shows and thankfully most show gardeners are now of the same view.”

BBC Gardeners’ World Live attracts over 100,000 visitors and is held at the NEC Birmingham from 13-16 June 2019.

The Gurkha Welfare Trust celebrates its 50th year in 2019 and provides vital support to Gurkha veterans, their families and communities in Nepal.
They enable people to live with dignity by delivering essential financial and medical aid and work with local communities to provide access to clean water and education.

The garden is sponsored by East Anglian businesses Greene King and Thompson & Morgan with support in kind from BHGS Ltd and VonHaus.

The 300 plants have been sourced from nurseries in Norfolk, Suffolk, Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire.
