I just had a lovely client experience this morning I'd like to share with you here.
She arrived with much anticipation, with a strong belief that she does not like anyone touching her lower limbs, and most definitely not her feet. But with the level of pain and tightness she has been suffering with since her knee replacement 7 months ago, and after her physio's recommendation to have massage therapy, she decided it was time to make herself "go through with it". ๐ฌ
She made it clear that she wanted and needed a gentle treatment.
Firstly I reassured her that we were not going to "push through" any pain or discomfort, and that I would totally honour and respect her body's feedback throughout. I would check in with her with regards to pressure, and I asked her to communicate with me if anything felt uncomfortable.
She had already experienced a back massage with me a year or so ago, which she remembers enjoying, so we started there. This helped her nervous system to settle into a place of trust and relaxation, before I moved down to her legs (honouring her request for me not to touch her feet).
Within a minute or so of me massaging the back of her legs, I was amazed, she had fallen asleep! ๐ดโจ๏ธ
It is not uncommon for clients to fall asleep during a treatment. But after such level of anticipation and dread, it was so lovely to witness and support that shift for her, into complete surrender, trust and deep relaxation ๐.
It is moments like these that remind me why I love doing this work ๐
