✨ My speech sound cue cards have been absolute stars lately! ✨

I’ve been using the vowel cards a lot this week and — the children just get them! I think it helps that they don’t feel like they’re saying “words,” but just fun sounds they hear all the time in everyday life.

They’re really becoming a key part of my sessions — I honestly couldn’t be without them now.

I’m just loving these jigsaw puzzles from smythstoys
3 wooden puzzles in one box for only £6.
I have 8 of these now and every time I go back they have new designs to tempt me! They’ve been a bit hit with the children I work with 😊

Jigsaw puzzles are a valuable tool in speech and language therapy for children because they support so many areas of communication and cognitive development.

Here’s why I use them in my practice:

Encouraging receptive language skills

- Instruction following (e.g., “Find the piece with the red hat.”).
- Positional language (e.g., “Turn it around,” “It goes next to the corner piece.”).

Building expressive language

- Object labeling and describing pictures (e.g., “It’s a big dog!”).
- Expanding sentence structure (e.g., “The piece goes here.”).

It’s been such a busy day that I didn’t have chance to take any photos.
But what a great day! Inspiring speakers with insightful content. So much to think about, lots of information to feed back to the team and more to add to my clinical practice.
Thank you ASLTIP, I’m so grateful for a day of networking, and learning - and the glass of wine at the end of the day was very welcome too!
