Blomfield House residents have enjoyed being outside in this lovely weather doing some gardening. We have taken up the old sunflowers 🌻 and drying them out to keep the seeds.
Then we have added more soil to each trough and then planted different spring bulbs like daffodils, narcissus and hyacinths to each one. They will all look pretty next year! Then all watered well. We enjoyed being outside in the fresh air. Thank you to Chris one of our residents here who bought the bulbs for us to put outside today .

Yesterday we did a reminiscing session (person centered) chatting about if we got married, how many times, if we had children, how long we were married for. Everyone got their photos out and we sat around the table all listening to everyone’s life experiences. It brought back lots of memories for people and we also learnt a lot about each other. Plus it was great to see everyone’s wedding photos and other people’s partners.
Thank you to Mike who drove us to clacton today from the Community bus 360

This morning Blomfield House had an armchair travel to Spain. We enjoyed chatting about parts that people had visited for their holidays we made up a fruit sangria drink ( no alcohol) and enjoyed this with lemonade. Residents cut up the fruit to go into the jugs. Dawn read out information about Spain and as you can see we dressed up which was good fun! Then after this the residents painted their pottery pieces. All looking good now there finished
This afternoon Margaret spent the afternoon out in the sun going shopping to Waitrose. Her son David came with us. Margaret bought herself a newspaper, humbugs, magazine and flowers πŸ’

Sleep is as important for our health as our diets and exercise, yet we often cut it short.

Follow these 5 tips to get the most out of it:
1. Whilst the length of sleep is important (aim for 7-9 hrs a night) but quality of sleep is important too. Improve sleep quality by removing distractions from your bedroom, avoiding caffeine late in the day.
2. Sleep consistency is important - going to bed and waking up at the same time each day (even on weekends or kids’ holidays) can improve how restorative your sleep is. Keep lie-ins less than 1 hour.
3. Stop snoozing! Each time you fall back to sleep, you initiate a new sleep cycle which takes 90 mins to complete, so breaking it by another alarm 10 mins later is added stress on your body
4. Keep your bedroom cool - your body needs to drop its temperature to initiate and maintain sleep
5. Screen time before bed has similar effects to drinking coffee on the brain. Avoid screens and blue light in the hour before sleep.

This year I’ve partnered with Bupa to bring you evidence based health information, that you can trust - for more sleep tips, check out Bupa’s website and the Bupa Health YouTube channel!
